    Win10 1803 Fail - Needs Non-Existant McAfee Uninstalled

    All:
Windows 10 is trying to update to version 1803 (3).
It is halting the update because "Some apps need to be uninstalled".
Specifically - McAfee Internet Security Suite.
I do not have, nor have I ever -intentionally- installed McAfee. I am running Norton Security Suite.
I went to the McAfee site, downloaded and ran MCPR. It ran to completion successfully and I restarted. Still no joy.
Here's the kicker - I went through this exact same issue during a previous major Win 10 upgrade. Microsoft and McAfee were of zero help. The only alternative was to do a complete OS reload from scratch (which was successfully completed). And now I'm running into it again.
I can only imagine there is still some McAfee fragment on my drive that is causing the trouble. My h/w configuration is:
    - AMD Ryzen 5 1600
    - GIGABYTE GA-AB350-Gaming 3 Motherboard
    - Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz
    - MyDigitalSSD BPX 80mm M.2 PCI Express 3.0 x4 (PCIe Gen3 x4) NVMe MLC SSD (480GB)
    - Running Win10 Pro 64-bit v.1709 build 16299.431
Does anyone have any idea how I can get around this without (a) ignoring Win10 updates and (b) reloading Win10 from scratch?

Did you have Norton installed the first time you ran in to this problem? If so, I would try uninstalling it and then try the upgrade again.

It seems there are some traces or leftovers from previously used AV programs. You must get rid of these traces before proceeding. Most probably some leftovers folders (under ProgramData for instance) and some registry entries. Many AV vendors have got "uninstaller tools" to forcibly remove their products. Try looking for Norton's and/or McAfee's.

    Hi.
As mentioned, there could be some leftovers in the system. Sometimes it gets in with other stuff. Or, it even could actually be referring to your Norton. At any rate, assuming you don't have incompatible Intel or Toshiba SSDs, I would uninstall your 3rd-party AV before proceeding. There have been some major problems with v1803 upgrade and 3rd-party AVs.

Problem resolved. Don't ask my which one of these steps fixed it:
    - Ran both McAfee and Norton uninstall tools twice (reboot after each uninstall).
    - Found and removed all registry entries containing "McAfee", "Network Associates", "Norton", and "Symantec"
    - Found and removed all files/folders containing "McAfee", "Network Associates", "Norton", and "Symantec"
I would be shocked (or would I?) if Windows Update was getting tripped up on some Norton artifact and reporting it was McAfee.
But I did find that the Norton uninstall left a LOT of ...stuff... laying around. Not impressed.
