mrgeek was being "cool" to let you know he does not have the issue.

Seems to be a common issue. Check the above thread and link in my post #2.

Well, that explains a lot. I have the icon disabled in Task manger/Startup and have Defender pinned to taskbar from Start button/Windows Defender/r-click Pin to taskbar.

putting on taskbar leads to same issue, it seems any icon for defender does not start advanced, however, start windows defender security center starts it fine, that is my only way to do advanced scan at this time, all defender icons in taskbar or system tray do not run advanced scan

Defender is running my scheduled daily Quick Scan, its first since the computer upgraded to 1803. So far its been running for 40 minutes and scanned 80,000 files and it is barely 50% complete going by the progress bar. Hardly quick by any definition. Prior to the update it would complete the scan in five minutes, scanning 20k files. MS messes everything up when they do updates. Everything.

My experience has been that an initial scan after upgrade takes more time.
