    Bitlocker Recovery Keys keeps appearing

I tried to restart my laptop yesterday ......Dell 15 inch ..........purchased 27 October 2017.

I received a message that I needed to enter some BITLOCK recovery keys.

After about a half hour of searching on the web I found the recovery keys for my laptop.

I entered the keys, restarted the computer and life was good.

But now, every time I restart the computer I have to reenter the keys....there are 8 sets of 6 keys, quite annoying.

I can't restart the computer without having to reenter the keys.....3X so far.

Then,,,,,,,,,the last time I restarted it I received another message that the power cord was not recognized by the computer. But I entered restart anyhow and then I got the keys .

I updated the MSFT update last week or whenever the new update was released but I did not have any problems with it last week etc.......

I did a search and did not see anything on this forum about BITLOCK.

    Is this a new issue?

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks, from Dallas

I cleaned the history, ran Malware Bytes, MSFT Defender and Ccleaner again.

I called the DELL helpline and they wanted to sell me a virus protection program for $149 for 1 year.....or $249 for 5 years......yeah.......like my laptops last 5 years.

I just bought it in October.

The Dell guy told me that I had some corrupted DLL Files and when I ran Ccleaner I was hoping that when I cleaned the registry some of that would help as well as the DLL option they have on there.

    No such luck.

I returned to Best Buy this afternoon and spoke to a second guy and he said it was software related and he would have to charge me to fix it even though that is where I bought it..

He suggested rebooting the OS sytem.....but there should be an easier way.

There has to be a simple fix to this.........

Click on the start icon and type bitlocker. Click on the top entry in the list for Manage Bitlocker. In the Window that opens, turn BitLocker off. I noticed that Windows 10 Pro ver 1803, when I installed it on my laptop, encrypted the drive without asking me if I wanted it encrypted or not and I was getting the screen to enter a key after I attempted to install a second boot menu entry.

    Check above thread.

May want to search google if this does not work. Seems to be a common issue.

I went to Best Buy a second time and they said it was a software issue.
I called MSFT today and they said it was a hardware issue.
I called DELL again. We did some checks online, right clicked OS C drive and the Bitlocker option was not there
We went to Settings- Update and Security - Device Encryption : and turned off the encryption.
It had to cycle through something and that slide bar took 1.25 hours but it finally shut down.
I restarted my laptop 2X and it restarted without failing.

I saw the link for the Device Encryption yesterday but it did not say anything about Bitlocker so I ignored it.
Besides, having anything called encryption turned on seemed like a good thing to do.

Anyhow......everything is back to normal .......thanks for the help.

I wish I had posted the link but I didn't.

But maybe one of these will help.

After I got the keys I created a document with the keys, my computer model, serial number and Key ID in case I had to refer to it again.

I know much of it can be found by clicking the MSFT keys or other sources, but I find it is easier to just keep everything in one place in easy reach.

Good luck, I know it is frustrating.

    BitLocker recovery key required also

Same issue here...a Dell issue it seems. Unrelated (I think), and before any problems, I called Dell Support Friday to have my monthly service plan cancelled...no longer needed it and wanted to save money. Left pc on and Saturday morning, the pc wouldn't power on...appeared to be dead. I had never experienced this before...finally held power button down about 30 seconds and the pc came on but needed my BitLocker recovery key (another first). After locating that in my Microsoft account, entered the numbers and appeared to be starting up but was asked to create a PIN (which I had always used to log in). I used the same one and the pc continued to boot up and everything appeared normal. That is until I tried a restart and was asked to put in the Bitlocker key again...same for a shutdown. Very frustrating. I'm sure there is a setting somewhere that can correct this, but it's strange that nothing has ever happened on this computer like this (Dell Inspiron-3 years old). Thanks for any suggestions.

    Hi @RaiderRed,

This is what one user had written in Dell Community.

"I disabled Secure Boot under Boot Options. Then restarted and entered the Bitlocker recovery key and booted up. I then restarted the laptop and pressed F2 to boot into the bios. I re-enabled the Secure Boot option, saved the changes and started up the laptop. This finally worked! I am no longer asked for the recovery key"
