Windows 10: Avast Free Problems on Laptop, Advice? Solved

    Avast Free Problems on Laptop, Advice?


    Think i'll probably remove it tomorrow, and stick to Windows Defender, After doing clean install of Avast this afternoon, resulted in behavior shield not wanting to activate, tired of messing with it, fixing issues, updating, restarting, removing/reinstalling


    Will I be as safe or safer with Defender as I am with Avast?

    Issue is observed in this saved Gamedvr onedrive shared video

    Might do a Fresh start type refresh on laptop tomorrow--I assume that would get rid of Avast fully, and still keep 1803 correct?

    Windows Defender is a strong and safe antivirus to use. You will be fine with Windows Defender running as your AV.

    Yeah gonna stick with Defender, less hassle, no bugs ever like the one I experienced with Avast, this is second time its done this on 2 systems so far. Feeling better on my Decision now for sure

    Avast/AVG = Problems, every since those 2 merged. Better choices: Bitdefender, FortiClient, Kaspersky.

    WD is recently doing pretty well, aside from a higher performance impact, it is a pretty good AV.

    I found recent versions of Avast to be rather bloaty and it adds a layer between you and your network. I no longer recommend Avast for laptops. I would stick with Defender as mentioned above and download Malwarebytes free for second opinion scanning.

    Yeah well got tired of troubleshooting Avast issues all the time, sending in logs, dump files to Avast support, and then another problem happens. Performance wise don't notice much on Windows 10 Desktop with my I7 Processor, or my I7 Laptop here, seems to be running as fast as it was before.

    Only one AMD Desktop that may have performance issues since it's Older AMD A6-3620 APU Processor (2.20ghz) but perhaps it won't be too bad lol, guess i'll find out if I decide to swap that one to Defender also.

    ... and apart from everything else, you try dealing with Avast Support, it's dreadful. I'm still waiting for a response from two separate cases I submitted a week ago and this is someone who has purchased five different Avast products!!! Hence, I'm only using their 'SecureLine VPN' now and have switched to Bitdefender Free and Malwarebytes (Premium).

    Well Update to situation:

    Laptop refreshed with Fresh Start option, All drivers reinstalled, still some software programs to go

    As for Desktop sfc /scannow reports corrupt files, even after running dism restore health option 2 times, won't even begin verification scan on sfc /scannow on I7 Desktop, So should I go for fresh start type refresh on that one, or full clean install on the Desktop.

    Laptop running fine now, but I am in no way reinstalling Avast Free, Sticking with Defender and Malwarebytes Free, should be all set I think

    I got time to decide what to do on desktop as still some files to backup and such

    I would try a repair install before I went with Fresh Start, but that's me.

    And to be honest, I would just start with a clean install especially since the April update is now out. Just get a clean start and go from there. That is what I did.

    NOTE: If you are picky with your user folder name, make sure that you avoid the MS account during the Windows install. You can add the MS account later, after you get into Windows.

    Yeah thinking will finish backups on Desktop, go ahead with a Clean Install on that one, laptop just about done, minus some other 3rd party apps that i'll get installed, but main install part done, drivers done, Office 365 done, so far running much better than before.

    When I had Avast in before started with UI not responding error, no matter what I did service wouldn't start, finally Avast released a fix for that on Sunday, well after the fix came out, Behavior shield wouldn't start period on either Intel I7 based machines, repair installs of Avast, clean installs of Avast, system restarts, lead to the file corruption I think to the point sfc /scannow won't even verify on Desktop lol, it's been a challenging week lol
