This is what you are looking for:

    Malwarebytes adwCleaner

You only need Windows Defender, Windows Firewall and Malwarebytes for scanning and removing annoying browser plugins or other malicious software.

adwCleaner is a stand alone tool that does not require to be installed and is designed for removal of programs that NO Virusscanner will ever find or even look for.

Use those 3 tools plus all other Windows 10 built in security tools and you'll be safe.

This is all you need. I have nearly exact setup.

TBH, although I run an AdwCleaner scan now and then, it more to reassure myself than any actual protection - it never finds anything. :)

Actually, Defender can scan for and protect against malware/PUP/PUA too - it's just that the option is normally only available for Enterprise customers. It can however be enabled in any edition including Home, as I have done on mine.

After about using Avast since 2006, recently started using WIndows Defender, Malwarebytes (Free) and Adwcleaner once in a while just to check, running great thus far here, PUA Protection enabled as well.

My apologies to @Kari @swarfega and @slicendice if I caused any offence to any of you in this thread or came across as being somewhat defensive in any way. That wasn't my intention, so I'm sorry.

That's a good tip about enabling Defender PUP protection. I just used the Powershell option in the tutorial. The test PUP file was blocked by the Malwarebytes add-on I was using in Chrome which is reassuring. I allowed the download and Defender did quaratntine ad remove the test file.

    Yes, you do..

Windows is unsafe due to it's (AD) nature it allows intrusions.. I'm sure Windows Defender was borne given that. .. (MS must have gotten tired of issuing Security updates.. LOL)

No-one can be super vigilant to prevent attacks... particularly 0-day. So all this don't do this.. don't do that is irrelevant.

MS Defender should improve over time given the telemetry from other AV's - they probably will not be as efficient with Heuristic detection though.
