version 1803 malwarebytes default instead of alongside defender

while version 1803 installed without a hitch a strange security development has ensued.
Malwarebytes was my second line of security defense in all previous versions of windows 10.
with the new install --again 1803--windows defender anti-virus has disappeared and Malwarebytes has the dominant security role with defender disappearing as an anti-virus and remaining only as a firewall.

    thank you.

I have not heard of MBM doing this with Defender. Both are running fine after a clean install of 1803.

You could try following this thread.

What version of MB are you running? Is this the free version or paid version?

I followed the upgrade path just to see how it goes and then later I will do a clean install. That said....on all my upgrade paths and clean installs, with my paid version of MB, I've never experienced what you are describing. Works flawlessly for me as well.

Within the MBAM settings there’s a choice to add MBAM to action centre, allow MBAM to choose & disable, choose disable otherwise it overrides WD.

i followed your advice and pulled Malwarebytes from Windows Action Center.

Before reading your advice I rebooted the machine and Defender --after a two minute digital tug-of-war with Malwarebytes (shown by the red x under the icon)--Defender resumed its rightful place as the default anti-virus with Malwarebytes sitting in the "side-car."

    Let's hope it sticks.

From a hard reboot Windows Defender did stick.
However, as mentioned above, Defender does not conjugate with Windows Settings Update and Security for several minutes after the machine is up and ready for use.
    What's going on??
