    TPM Trusted Platform Module Issue

After updating to windows 10 version 1803 this comes up after I log in. A configuration change was requested to clean this computers TPM( trusted platform module). Warning clearing erases information started on the TPM. You will lose all created keys and access data encryption by these keys.
Press F12 to clear the TPM
Press ESC to reject and continue.
I have done this numerous times on every restart.
I go into windows defender to view security dashboard to view device settings to security processor to ignore the request for the TPM and it is fixed but again when I restart to asked the same question over and over.

Literally just joined for this issue.

I did a in place upgrade from the last version (17whatever) to 1803, which then kiboshed my TPM (was working fine before upgrade) - lame.

tpm.msc shows that I have no TPM - lame.

    Tried the following
*Clearing TPM with the Windows Settings prompt (like in OP)
    *Clearing TPM from bios
*Unencrypting drive fully (cos I didn't want to lose data) then clearing TPM, disabling, rebooting and enabling TPM again, in BIOS.

    Going to try
*Nuking laptop and installing from fresh, will report back after I try.
*Failing above nuke, will try with Windows 10 1709, to confirm this is a 1803 issue.

    Thoughts
*Have a feeling this is a 1803 problem - lame.
    *Dont upgrade yet, lel.

Similar for me after the 1803 update, TMP under defender says OK but looking further under security processor troubleshooting says it requires a firmware update.
I’m running 2.0 which afaik is the latest version. Checking tmp.msc says all if OK there too - no error saying it requires an update, other sites I’ve checked says there should be if there’s a problem.
I cleared TMP but the error is still there.
I have posted a thread about it.
Imo there’s a previously unknown bug appearing in the update.

I just cleared my TPM. Let's see how goes. One thing I did not do yet, was to let my firmware rebuild the security descriptors and database.

So far all is working great.

I cleared my TPM and guess I'm the lucky one as all is well. I'm not getting any errors or anything.

    Update on post #3

There's an emoji for this... ##!£$%

Well, now I know this issue is a 1803 problem. I tried 1709 after a clear and reset of the TPM and it picked it up in tpm.msc OK. But after installing 1803 from freshly minted media it clapped out again - tpm.msc didn't find the tpm.

So for myself, this is defo a bug in 1803 on the Yoga 900 13ISK2. I'm running the Intel Platform Trust Technology (PTT), which provides TPM functionality.

As far as I'm aware PTT is not a TPM (as in physical chip), but provides the features via firmware, where the firm is stored I have no idea. Open to correction, google failed to school me in the 10 mins of research.

Anyway, back to restoring my laptop...

    Current Thoughts
*it was a stupid idea to put my system image backup on a bitlocker drive, the unlock key is huge - don't make my mistake.
*create the recovery media with the desktop app "Recovery Drive" which can utilise a USB thumb drive. The one in the control panel requires a DVDRW...

I recently upgraded my 8yr old Lenovo Thinkpad W510 to Windows 10 April 2018 Update (v1803). I also noticed a message in Windows Defender regarding a problem with the "security processor" which indicated that I should "reset it to fix functionality issues". In looking at TPM.mmc, I see a message indicating that "TPM is not ready for use" and I have the following available options:

    1. TPM is not enabled or activated. Please check BIOS settings.
    2. Turn on TPM and take ownership.
    3. Restart the computer to take ownership of TPM.
    4. Click "Prepare the TPM" to provision it.

    5. You may clear the TPM to remove ownership and reset the TPM to factory defaults. [However the "Clear TPM" action is grayed out, so not accessible.]

The TPM on my system is from STMicroelectronics not from Infineon which apparently had some issues.

Which choice do I make? I have no idea what "Prepare the TPM" will do. There are options through Windows Security Settings, but I don't trust what MS might mess up.

    Thanks,

    JohnD

    Hi
I am also having this problem on my Acer Laptop Win 10 home version 1803 build 17134.112.

Just curious how much more does not resting TMP make your computer more vulnerable.

    Cheers

Check with Acer to see if there is an update to the TPM firmware for your laptop. See this site:

    https://us.answers.acer.com/app/answ...ail/a_id/51137

I had no update for my system. By running TPM.msc I was able to execute the "Prepare the TPM" to provision it and make it ready. It then cleared the message. You can check this site for more info.
