    Win10 ver1803 Defender Not Updating

Hello all. I updated to version 1803 yesterday via Windows Update. This morning, Defender updated through the program to definition 1.267.615.0 as Windows Update has yet to run an automatic check for any updates.

At this writing, Defender definitions are up to 1.267.639.0 on the Microsoft WDSI Definitions page. I did a manual check for updates from the program and it did not find the new definitions. I then ran a manual check for updates via Windows Update and it showed that I was up to date, also not finding the updated definition.

The definition that did come in early this morning shows up in the Windows Update View Update History as successfully being installed. I haven't seen any Defender update show up there since Windows 7.

Just wondering if it's a bad definition update or if there's a problem with 1803. Bad news if I can't update Defender.

Thanks for any ideas or suggestions.

I've been on this build for quite some time now. And there has not been any definition update issues so far. I have same definitions as you.

I think everybody is celebrating Mayday...so no updates today.

I have the same issue too. Only way I was able to update was by downloading it from Microsoft.com

Latest pre-release definition version is 1.267.643.0. This means that they are not yet tested. 1.267.615.0 is the latest tested one.

Not all definitions updates get put onto the windows update servers. The definitions are actually updated hourly, and if you're a paying Enterprise customer you can choose to get them all. For the general public, one or two updates per day seems to be considered sufficient. Only a few get put on the windows update servers, hence the big jump in the numbering between each update. You always have the option of a manual download if you want the latest definitions.

No, 1709 says 1.267.615.0 (created about 12 hours ago) is the latest available from Windows Update too, just checked that on my test machine.

Update: The windows update servers have just got a new definition, both 1803 and 1709 now see 'Definition Update for Windows Defender Antivirus - KB2267602 (Definition 1.267.643.0)' that was created about 4 hours ago.

@slicendice, @Redbatman -- I just went to Microsoft WDSI page and successfully got 1.267.643.0. And, as was the case early this morning, the successful install is showing up in the View Update History of Windows Update. Funny how that's been gone for so long and now it's back, or, am I just lucky (lol)?

I'm marking this as solved but if anyone else is getting Defender updates to show as installed in Windows Update history, I'd like to know.

@Bree -- many thanks for the explanation. Some really great people here who know their stuff. I'm learning and I love it!

Well know the latest version 1.267.658.0 will not update for Defender. Has it been pushed to the servers?

Which is odd since my 8.1 laptop can get it.

@Redbatman -- don't know if it's been pushed. Bree's explanation above makes sense -- who knows why your 8.1 laptop can get it. This definition acts the same way 1.265.639.0 did earlier today. I'm inclined to see if Defender will get an update tomorrow automatically. Perhaps it's a case of things having to sort themselves out. I'm still waiting for Windows Update to automatically check for updates -- hasn't done that since I got 1803 yesterday. Related issues?????

Just checked on Windows 7, that got 1.267.658.0 too. The update servers would have separate lists of the updates available for each version of Windows, my guess is someone forgot to update the list for Windows 10.
