I am currently trying out Kaspersky. So far it seems ok, and it provides more than just AV protection, it checks websites, to make sure they are not on a list of phishing sites, I am not sure if I will keep it. I don't have an issue with their recent scandal.
I decided to buy Kasperskys Internet Security. It's far more than just AV protection, It provides, phishing protection, firewall, privacy protection, parental controls, add blocker, and much more. It requires some knowledge to configure it properly. For example, icloud.com won't load at all unless you allow it collect data on you, but I kind of trust them, so I allowed that. You just have to fine tune it. If something breaks, you can always add an exception. I also bought their VPN service, which so far, I am very happy with.

I am not going to get into the details of each of these features because otherwise this would be a very long post. I know that Kasperskys has had a recent scandal, where the U.S and British Governments removed their product from all their computer, however, I am not concerned. I doubt that Kasperskys has any interest in spying on me. The reason to get this level of protection is because I do conduct financial business on my computer, and I am just trying to cover all bases. I felt that I needed a product that goes beyond just AV protection, however, if AV protection is all you need, I would probably suggest you not buy this product because it would be overkill for you. More than likely you would be just fine with Windows Defender.

Many people have stopped using Kaspersky products due to cyber security concerns. Russia has threatened cyber attacks on the West and nobody knows what vulnerabilities may be encoded in a Russian product such as Kaspersky antivirus. Fine if you are content with the product but it's a risk many people choose not to take.

U.S and British Governments removed their software from all government computers because it was alledged that Kasperky might be associated with Russian Intelligence. I am not sure if that was substanciated or not, however, the fact that neither governement has passed any directives to prevent their citizenry from using the software is telling. Regardless, I don't handle the type of data that anyone other than cyberthiefs would be after. They have also embarked on a Global Transparency Initiative. Please see below link.
