    Allowing programs to work

After upgrading from Win 7 to 10 I quickly found out that some programs were not allowed to fully function, such as simply saving a file to a library. I did learn that I can allow programs to function by adding the exe file to Defenders allowed list. Very annoying.
I recently installed Power Director 16 and had the same issue, added it to the allowed list in defender but still receive this notification.

How can I fix this, or better yet is there a something I can do to prevent ALL such blocks on any program I have, or install in the future.

    Thanks

Hi, you might like to read this.

My belief is that if you use a 3rd party AV, this Defender feature is disabled. Why? Because it relies on Defender real time scanning being enabled, and that's disabled if you have another AV program installed.

The anti-ransomware protection that is included with the latest Windows Defender is working correctly and as any other anti-ransomware has to operate, one you add your applications to the whitelist you will see nothing of the feature, until some nasty appears and tries to lock you out of your data files.

The feature may be switched off in the settings for Defender, (I have professional security software that performs this function, and I am running Pro Windows 10), at least on my systems

I had mistakenly added the app to be allowed thru defenders firewall, but have since added it to the allowed list in Defender (controlled folder access)

It's unfortunate that we now require this extra layer of security to allow us to use our systems without the constant threat of a ransomware. It is not Microsoft's fault, You have to look to those who, for their own gain, try to rob users of money, under threat of the loss of their data.

There is very little choice on the method used to deal with the threat of Ransomware and it must be aimed at the user data files. the documents, the Photos, Music, and Video, as these are the targets of the scum that make the attacks.

Microsoft, selects the standard locations for data storage, Documents, Downloads, Music, Video & Pictures - if you have any other areas that you use for your data files you need to consider adding these to the locations protected against Ransomware
