OP here. I'm in agreement that both MBAM and SAS aren't in the same class, but serve their original purposes well. I'm gonna look into F Secure as well. Thanks for all your input.

When Malwarebytes first appeared on the scene, it was highly regarded : outsanding protection & a nimble organisation that was quick to satisfy user requests.
Unfortunately, something changed when they decided to grow from their core focus. Although its protection is still outstanding, for me Malwarebytes now has a tarnished reputation. The facts are that over the last few years there have been 3 (or is it 4?) major updates that have gone seriously wrong with a significant impact of systems - those of you that have used it for several years may recall systems being turned into bricks.
I no longer use it, or recommend it, because in my opinion there is just no way of knowing what you are going to get with these major updates.

Which is still about as many as any other anti-malware program out there, with the added benefit of not having stolen anyone else's definitions at all, and also having a consistently highly-rated detection engine. But you're within your right to use or not use any product.

Hi,
Anyone willing to use beta updates get what happens :)
As far as updating automatically
mbam's default setting to update every hour is pretty bazaar and should be switched to once a day instead to lower ones chances of catching a bad update.
By all accounts though system images weekly would limit effects greatly :)

The two things that keep me using it are its solid detection and lifetime license that I got before they changed. None of its competitors offer the same long license.
I find myself checking it regularly to see if its updating and functioning as expected.

You're right about solid detection. I don't frequent dangerous places, but now and then some innocent link goes astray and MBAM has nailed them. Naturally I missed the Lifetime License opportunity, but I'm sticking with the paid version until something else pops up again.

Well, i have a lifetime lic and 4 paid licenses. Fortunately, I do create daily backup images. We this hit my system, I simply restored C partition to the day before an turned off MBAM Until I seen here the issue was fixed and turned it back on. I find MBAM a worthwhile program this was quite a shocking situation. Usually, it's a WU that this happens with for me at least. I also run Norton I have found over the years the 2 work well together. I'll continue using both until something better comes along.
