I think this perceived issue of wearing out SSDs / HDDs is unjustified. I use my 5 year old desktop daily and its SSD health still shows 100% as measured by the Intel SSD utility. My SSD based laptop still shows 100% health after 3 years use. I maintain two old PCs from 2006 and their HDDs work fine. In fact I've never had a HDD fail after using PCs at home and work for 30 years

Simply with FREE Macrium restore a CLEAN OS image -- shouldn't take you more than 30 mins and will be 100% safe.

If you don't have a decent backup start taking them and then you'll NEVER be bothered with this sort of B/S again or spend HOURS on trying to clean an infected system.

Too many "Security people" trying to flog outdated products (WD is as good as it gets on the current versions of Windows 10) or save their jobs. I agree for corporate / large scale enterprise Networks this stuff is important -- for home users / small networks the sell by date of these old programs, methodolgy and systems has long since passed. You are using old C20 methodology to fix C21 problems --get with it and use MODERN methods --save yourself a huge wodge of time too,

Couldn't agree more with all points, Jim. Defender is quite adequate and a backup is the quickest solution. The #1 golden rule is to backup always.

How about the analogy of washing dishes in a feces-infested sink? I guess some are just gluttons for punishment. In a twisted way I actually find it amusing to read such threads. Let's act real important and write up 50+ posts of utter nonsense. Never ceases to amaze me.
