Tough love. Every AV lets something to slip here and then. You should keep using the products you like.

I like this one as well. Avast has got a gaming/silent mode, so that takes care of ADs/notifications.

No need for AV, all major browsers do it, you can also add extensions and DNS, which block phishing/malware.

Sort of, but it is very basic, WD heavily relies on cloud and smartscreen, without them, it is useless.
Not sure why anyone would not use smartscreen w/ WD... TBH -- but yup, those top 3 in the graph are my top 3 as well.

BTW agree with dencal, pleasantly surprised how well Kas performs, having been with BD for so long.

I may still consider Windows Defender with Smartscreen and all that for newer laptop, I just not sure yet, then may refresh/reset the Desktop machine as well at that time, and clean it up some as well, but still have to fully decide

Just gotta get my mind set on one program and stick with it, on Desktop over the last month switched protection 5-6 times

Privacy concerns, it is more aggressive/invasive than WD's cloud.

I was considering using smartscreen, since it is like voodoshield, but it has a smaller performance impact, but I have no idea, how to get that silliness to work with my strict settings, exe is just sitting there doing nothing, too many dependencies.

Yup stick with one and it give a proper test run... monitor resource usage, port activity, stealth and such stuff - then decide if you are comfortable - horses-for-courses -- WD is fine for most people. As Barman says, multi-layer is best

yeah I switched way too much in the last month lol, but with a newer laptop coming shortly, think perfect time to clean up the desktop as well, plus make sure fully clean before I hookup external to new lappy to do it's image backup lol.

So far I am doing fine on three different PCs with AVAST (again, custom install without the bloat). Of course I also use a layered approach (MBAE, OpenDNS, etc).

As for Panda Cloud (or dome or whatever is called now) I had some trouble in the past with it. It's not the fastest one when doing certain tasks (compressing and such). For some odd reasons it seemed to add some noticeable impact when doing things. Maybe it has been resolved now. It also needed a fast beefy Internet capabilities.

PS - Ouch! what a shady webpage is Panda's. Full of Advertisements and other crap. Tried to download the Free AV from there and I got redirected to another shady download page. No thanks.

It has no signatures, so it checks everything against the cloud, it does not even work offline.

I had the issue too, WiFi kept failing, because it was waiting for the response, I think it is 30 seconds by default, you have to lower the time to 10 secs, then it is manageable. You can also disable behaviour monitoring, it does not do much.

Yes, the download is hosted on CNET, they do not really want people using free version, it is not mentioned amongst products on their homepage. There is only a tiny icon on one page.

Still, it does pretty well in tests.

After a few days trying AVAST Free I have returned to WD. These are my reasons:

+ I have enough knowledge to run fine with a layered approach. So WD + MBAE + anything else is enough for me.
+ WD has the least system impact than most AV products out there.
+ AVAST had slightly increased my boot and shutdown times.
+ Noticeable increase (miss/hit) in applications launching times.
+ Too many options to configure for AVAST. Most of the time defaults aren't good.
+ Somewhat cluttered interface for AVAST.

Other than that I am not saying AVAST is bad, not by a big margin, but I must confess I find WD quite good, in fact.

Once customized, I doubt WD can beat 0% CPU and 48 B/s. You can use Avast extension to replace webshield, even if you use WD. It swiftly detects fresh phishing webpages or you can use Netcraft.

It performs a rootkit scan at boot, plus a few more things.

True, on the other hand, most AVs have like zero options. This what I recommend:

Setup - Customize - Minimal Protection (Select Behaviour Shield for a better protection)

Settings - General - Enable Silent mode/Scan for PUP / Privacy - Disable Both / Components - File Shield and Web Shield - Customize - Advanced - Set Heuristics to High

    For Performance - Settings - Troubleshooting - Disable - Rootkit scan/Raw disk access/Avast self-defense/Avast services/Hardware virtualization (can cause BSOD)
