Windows Update Error (0x800705b4) with "other MS products" Checked

I am running Windows 10 64bit Home, version 1511. WU was working fine until November 7th.

Around the 10th I noticed there was a Windows Defender error - failed definition install or something - so I updated the definitions in the WD GUI which cleared the error, but then I got this one...

"There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x800705b4)"

Following advice here "https://www.thegeneralistit.com/blog/2016/03/27/recap-fixing-windows-10-update-error-0x800705b4/" I unchecked "Give me updates for other MS products when I update Windows." which cleared the error - WU downloads and installs updates with no issues.

Unfortunately, when I re-check "Give me updates for other MS products when I update Windows." again then I get the 0x800705b4 error again.

I have tried other recommendations - disable WD, Clean boot, WU Trouble Shooter... and reset WU using Shawn's .bat file found here "http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/24742-windows-update-reset-windows-10-a.html", but nothing has helped.

It is very unlikely a compatibility issue - I have almost the the same security config on 2 other machines that haven't had any issues - the only addition here is Sandboxie which is not going to interfere with WU.

I am out of ideas - any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks

Have you tried grabbing the single update using windows update minitool?

Download Windows Update MiniTool - MajorGeeks

I find sometimes when I have issues downloading a patch , grabbing and installing them singly using that gets past the issue , or at least helps me find out WHICH one is causing the issue.

No - Thanks I'll give that a try. I've been meaning to try the WUMT anyway

I was able to download and install all 6 updates for MS Office with the mini tool I just selected them all and there were no errors so I'm not sure what the issue was. I was surprised it was successful because it took almost an hour to "find" the updates. With "Give me updates for other MS products when I update Windows." unchecked then WU "finds" updates in about 30 seconds & prior to this issue I don't recall WU (with "Give me updates for other MS products when I update Windows." checked) taking more then 5-10 minutes max

WUMT is a terrific tool, but it can be slow when retrieving multiple updates. That said, regular Windows Update can also be slow (at least, for me) as well, too. Glad you found a usable workaround. Never heard of the "other MS Products" glitch before. Thanks for sharing.
