Hello, whilst it would appear entirely illogical- we're after a work around anyway- it would help anyone answering this if you could confirm you have precisely followed this which has worked for some people?

My point is this:
You don't want the Windows Firewall on, fine, nether do I. But if you create a shortcut to the services, you can turn on the Firewall service at your convenience to run updates, and stop it again the same way when finished updating.
That at least will give you a short term fix, and hopefully, MicroOops will correct it.
Hope this is a little more specifically helpful than my previous post.
1. Right click Start menu > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services ( "Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools\Services.lnk" )
2. Right click Windows Firewall > Start
3. Run Updates
3 Services > Right click Windows Firewall > Stop
Annoying? Yes. Will it work? Yes.
