Thanks Superfly, your advice much appreciated, call me ignorant if you like but I just like simplicity and I'd rather press on and hope as I was advised by Optus the updates were probably a one off and will go back to normal. I get myself into trouble when I dig too deep into the workings of my computer. Not cyber tech savvy!
I'm sorry RolandJS but I'm back on updates again. Why do I have to accept the following recent installed updates? I've tried to list them below as they were displayed on my computer under Installed Updates. There appears to be at least one obvious duplication?
27/08/2016 Update for Microsoft Windows KB3176936
03/09/2016 Update for Adobe Flash Player KB3189031
03/09/2016 Update for Microsoft Windows KB3176938
It has come to the stage where I will have to remove Widows 10 from my computer and install Windows 7 again. There is still support for W7 until 2020+. I'd rather go the expense of making the change than suffering the anxiety that W10 is causing me.
Again I look like going well over my data cap. On this occasion I look like going well over my cap and the charge is $10 per extra Gig. I rarely had this problem with W7 if ever. I'm not going to change immediately if you'd care to comment.
Why so much need to control all aspects of updates ? Doesn't seem too psychologically healthy to me.
I had may set up from the beginning to manual only because it wouldn't interrupt me at inopportune times but I check for them regularly specially when new build is announced.
who?
Are you on Insider updates? Those would be more frequent. If you are, I suggest going back to normal build.
Control freaks, that's who. I'm a bit allergic to them. Had to leave a good job because of a boss like that and split with a girlfriend that turned into one of those. I'm not in love with automation, in my working life I spent most of time repairing and even making automatic production machines but had only one car with automatic transmission and didn't like it so I changed it to 4 speed ('70 Mustang).
You should ditch Optus as they, like Telstra, charge more for less and go with one of the smaller ones like TPG or Dodo or Club Telco amongst others where you'll get unlimited downloads for around the $A50-60 a month but I suppose you might not have these ISP's where you are. Can you ask a friend with better plan to download the updates for you when needed and give it to you on a USB stick so you can totally disable Win updates in between
