No one thinks it strange that the AU was available on one of my computers, it was downloaded but was not installed, even though I selected Install Now. And now there is no evidence of it anywhere and the computer says it is up to date?

Not at all. Windows Update has proven itself in the past to be the least reliable method of installing major upgrades. The "update now" buttons on Microsoft websites are only slightly more reliable. The most reliable method is to download and save the actual ISO file.

I just updated two more computers with the ISO on a thumb drive and it worked just fine. These devices previously would not install the anniversary Update via the Microsoft update...
