Do you have a valid MSDN subscription? And where does it say only 10 activations?

On one od the pages of microsoft it says
Retail keys allow multiple activations and are used for retail builds of the product. In many cases, 10 activations are allowed per key, though often more are allowed on the same machine.

Normally what happens is the product key will get blocked from online automatic activation. Then after that you have to call the Microsoft activation phone number and tell the computer voice that you have that copy of Windows installed on only 1 computer.

The way I read that, is if you activated on 10 different PC's with that key. On the eleventh PC activation will fail. If you only ever use that key on that one PC, you can activate as many times as you like. MSDN keys are often used for testing and used on more than one PC. You can only ever activate with that Retail key on one PC at any one time, but you can move it from PC to PC. The 10 activation limit is likely to try and detect abuse or an MSDN account. Someone selling their keys for instance. People that do that will often sell that one key multiple times. That's why I asked you if you have an MSDN account? If you bought that key on E-bay it likely will fail activation, sooner than latter.

So far I was able to activate my PC 10+ times. And some additional Vmware activations. The source of the key I wont tell.

I've done many reinstalls with my various MSDN keys. I never bothered to keep track of how many per key I did. I'm careful to only use one key per PC. I likely went from 8 to 8.1 then to 10 before reaching the 10 activation mark for a key though. I was probably close.

Buyer beware, if that person gets found out, and they usually are, all the keys for that subscription will be immediately blacklisted. Subscribers are not allowed to resell MSDN keys, its a big no no. Once a key is blacklisted it won't activate. If you earn your income from that PC you might want to think about a backup plan.

You wouldn't believe for how cheap I got it. And I've succeeded with activating Windows still with the generic key since I got a entitlement or something. The price btw is under 6 dollars.
