    Windows 7 key for 10

    Hi,

    My install didnt work properly,

I tried typing in my windows 7 key which i bought awhile ago into Windows 10 change key program.

It says its wrong but I copied it from the email I got? Its Windows 7 Professional.

What do I do? Should I just buy a new Windows 10 license?

Is your Windows 10 also a Pro version or it is a Home version.

That looks a little too cheap for a Windows license. Legal one that is.

I agree with davidhk - if you have installed W10Home, you have to do things a little bit differently, to upgrade to Pro.

See here, start with step 5:
Upgrade Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro - Windows 10 Forums

    Layloria,

Please press Win Key + R to open the run dialog, run winver. Post a screenshot of the result window here.

Also right click on the start icon, select Command Prompt (Admin). In the command prompt window run:
    slmgr /dlv
Post the results here. Then we can help you more. Your results should look like:

Try installing that W7 first and see if it would activate. It' may be an OEM version.

It's the same windows 7 key I had before I upgraded, I used this key to activate my windows 7 pro
Then I upgraded for free to windows 10

It's hard to troubleshoot without some tangible info - do as NavyLCDR suggested - otherwise your guess is as good as mine.
