Edwin, I tried to do that, but I guess I missed the point in the process where I should abort the update. When, exactly, does this occur? Got a screenshot or anything?
That's when the download is done and before the PC reboots for installation.

Meh, I've already installed Windows 7 on the Dell. I just finally had enough of it. I've still got 10 on my laptop to play with.

You can setup a VM and install W10 there. OK, VM is not a real testing (I mean in real hardware), but you will be able to see new features in future releases. Just a thought. :)

    Sorry, blind me
And of course the suggestion can be considered as a fail from the begining, considering the user I gave it
I mean, I don't know what possess me sometimes and I'm giving suggestions to MVPs
Nah, nothing but Double blind Me. Just saw the title of the user.

Just because Alpha's an MVP, he may not be a Windows one. <Hi Alpha> Of course, I haven't a clue what his MVPness might be, but if he should have a problem and I know the answer, I'm not shy about telling him (or anyone else) what I think I know. :)

Just as a FYI, there are many, many MVPs in many, many different areas of Microsoft products. I was one for about three years, but because Microsoft decided to abandon "my" product, I no longer am. No biggie . . . I still get to test new product!

So, I try to carefully read the problem someone's having and then reply accordingly. Sometimes, in spite of myself, I give advice/information the other person doesn't need. :) Oh, well, these guys and gals are very forgiving when we accidentally put our feets into it . . .

My official title is was Windows Expert-Consumer, that's what it says on my ID card anyway. I honestly don't consider myself an expert, but I like to think I do know a thing or two when it counts. That title is going to change, I got an e-mail with the new tittle. My Technical Expertise is now Windows Experience. I liked the old title better but hey. Microsoft MVP is a free perk so if that's what they want to call me fine by me.

When the install goes to Preparing you need to grab the esd file before it's done that stage.

I missed it two times two weeks ago before catching it. I guess that's when Kari posted this in his tut.

    Kari said:
Keep your eyes on the PC Settings > Update and Recovery. When the upgrade download gets to 100%, the next phase before the installation starts is Preparing to install updates:At this point Windows has already created the hidden folder C:\$Windows.~BT. In its subfolder Sources you can find the install.esd file:Hurry up, copy it and paste to another drive before the "Preparing" phase runs to 100%; when installation starts after the preparation and it for any reason fails, the install files including the esd file are gone, the folder only containing some logs.

Now download the tool, link in tutorial (first post in this thread) and follow instructions to create your own ISO image.

I'm glad you got renewed, Alpha, no matter what they're calling you. :) I really enjoyed being an MVP while it lasted, but as long as I get to test, that's OK by me.

It's nice, year three for me. The free MSDN subscription is the big bonus. Not the free product keys either. The nice clean unaltered ISO's you know you can trust using are a god send. No more having to hunt something up on the internet and wonder if it's been modified in a bad way. Although, its not as bad as it used to be now that Microsoft have the Media Creation Tool for Windows 8 that everybody can use. Hopefully they do something similar for Windows 10.
