Where do I go to find the Profile List?
Launch File Explorer and paste the following into the address bar

    %TEMP%

    Can't update Windows-pcttemppct.png

    The file should be there
%TEMP% is an environment variable that points to your Temp folder
    example C:\Users\Dad\AppData\Local\Temp

    Hey Slartybart,

Ok, please see the attached profList.txt

I think you may be on to something. This is an old work computer. I tried to uninstall ESET after the subscription ran out, but I couldn't due to admin permissions. So, I had to make some admin changes on the computer and then, that's when this problem seemed to start.

    Thanks!

Your profile list looks good. The issue John Wink, et al are chasing does not apply to your machine.
There is another scenario they are looking at, but no solultion is offered yet.

Could you describe the changes you made trying to solve the ESET issue.
What AV application are you using now?

Many AV vendors offer a stand alone uninstaller, ESET offeres this:

    Read through it, ask questions.

    Hi,

    I am using Defender now.

I wasn't able to uninstall ESET via the regular add/remove programs option in Control Panel. I did download and use their uninstall tool.

As far as user changes go, I just remember trying to make some profile changes even though I was supposed to already be an admin. I recall trying to remove admin privileges from another user. Sorry I can't be more specific as it was about a month ago.

    Thanks!

Ok, thanks. I understand not remembering changes from yesterday

I guess it's a wait and see what MS comes up with next.

Other members might offer suggestions that I didn't know about or think of ... it will get fixed one way or another.

    Hang tight

Ok, thanks. Other people are telling me to wipe my hard drive with a fresh install, but I don't want to that because it seems like there should be an easier solution and I don't want to lose my Office programs (again this is an old work computer). Thanks!

Sure, a Clean install is almost guaranteed to fix any issue with Win10 (it can't fix harware issues, or after install user tweaking)

It is possible that an in-place upgrade would solve the issue for you
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade - Windows 10 Forums

Read the tut and ask any questions before attempting it. It's fairly simple and the tut details everything, but it's always better to ask for clarification first then to try and backtrack

    Yes, your applications are preserved.

I tried an in place up grade already and received the following error:

    0x800F0830 - 0x20003
The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during INSTALL_UPDATES operation

    Hmmm ...

In that case, the first thing I would try is this: Windows Update Troubleshooter

I have run the update troubleshooter before. It says it finds an error and fixes it, but the problem remains.

I just tried again and it says errors are repaired, but the problem is not solved. Thanks.
