I just jumped in, but can't follow up with any regularity. Rob seems competent enough to sort through or discussions.

One last thing that caught my attention: I'm not sure of the disk drive setup, but noticed that the TMP and TEMP environment variables point to %USERPROFILE%...\Temp - if those vars are on C: Rob could move them to another drive to save space on the SSD.

There is an awful lot in the startup, I know rob said he tried a clean boot, bit the data doesn't support that. Maybe the data he posted was from before he made that attempt.

In any case, I suggest disabling all of the entries - ROb will have to make some determination though as I'm not familiar with all of the autorun/startup components in his lists

    autorun.txt:
    OneDriveSetup, C:\Windows\SysWOW64\OneDriveSetup.exe /thfirstsetup
    iCloudServices, C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Internet Services\iCloudServices.exe

    Not sure about these:

Hi, I'm watching these posts and will get back to this as soon as things calm down. Yes, there is a lot in the startup and I'm constantly trying to intervene and whittle that down. It takes a lot of software to do my business and everything likes to think it deserves being started at startup.

Thanks for the continued feedback. I'll be diving back in soon to clear up the lingering issues.

Ok, I'm back and ready to dive in and get 'sfc' and 'dism' to complete successfully. FYI, my boot problem that started this thread has never come back. I have a lot of reading here to do to get started. I'll report back as I move along.

I did just run this: 'dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealh' and received this:

"Error: 1392The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.
The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log"

...so obviously I have some work to do.

Yeah, you'll need to grab an ISO and point the DISM tool to it. See step 6 here

Ok, I have the iso that I retrieved from the source you guys suggested earlier in this thread. Should I just go ahead and and start this on my own or do you want to hold my hand as I go along? I see a few opinions above about how to approach this. I wasn't sure if they ever reached a consensus. Maybe the link "DISM - Repair Windows 10 Image - Windows 10 Forums" is considered the preferred workflow.

Mount the ISO. It will mount as a DVD drive with a letter. If you downloaded it from Techbench it should have an install.wim file and not an install.esd file in the Sources folder. You want the install.wim. Replace the drive letter assigned to your mounted ISO file and try running this in an elevated command prompt ( Admin). Replace the D with your drive letter.
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:wim:D:\sources\install.wim:1 /limitaccess

Please refresh my memory - have we done a repair install using an in-place upgrade yet?

Edit: Have we run CHKDSK also?
