    Windows Update Doesn't Notify Me

Last November, or maybe even October, Windows Update stopped notifying me about updates, so I've been checking them manually whenever ESET notifies me about them. The 1511 upgrade didn't correct the situation, and neither did resetting Windows. Is there something I can do to fix it, and is it worth worrying about in the first place?

    Anything found by troubleshooter?
First of all, it doesn't notify you before restart or Install?

I don't know where to find the troubleshooter, and prior to November, it notified me without fail, but now the only notification I get is that ESET's logo has a blue dot. The first time I discovered the problem was Dec. 9th, when I found critical updates which had been waiting for install since the 7th, and repeated messages dating back to Nov. 26th about the 1511 update failing. (The update was successful once I clicked the appropriate button in Settings.)

    I don't even have such a switch:

Is that a Pro feature, by any chance? The only two switches I have turned off on that page are "Show me tips about Windows" and "Hide notifications while presenting." Anyway, I just realized how I can stop those annoying Six-Guns notifications, so that's one good thing.:)

I don't know why, but today Windows Update started notifying me again. The only changes I made recently enough that they might be relevant are: I changed the settings for Steam so that it no longer launches at startup, I turned off Mail and Photos notifications, yesterday I installed the Intel Management Engine interface update, and today I upgraded FBackup 5.5 to 6. Could any of those have fixed it?

The problem still exists after a clean install followed by the Anniversary Update. Should I just accept that I need third-party software to notify me about Windows updates?

    Hi try:

Personally, I'd only be interested in controlling the restart, usually.
But this may be useful if you have restricted bandwidth or are concerned about the reliability of a particular update.

Note that Defender updates are performed by Windows Update- I don't know if this would apply to those too.

Note also that universal app updates are separate, on a 4 hourly schedule.
