Windows 10 Pro, version 1511, 10586 update fails multiple times

I've tried to install this multiple times: Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, version 1511, 10586

Here's what I've done so far to try and fix:

    Code:
    sfc /scannow
multiple times as admin. No errors reported.
    Code:
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    sfc /scannow
I've checked the Windows logs but didn't find anything.

When Windows restarts I get the Windows logo, but it then goes to a blue screen and asks me if I want to restart, or reset my PC. I restart and then I get a message saying the update install failed.

Try this if you have not tried it (you do not say)

Download iso, click on it and run setup.exe.

I should have mentioned I already have Windows 10, this is an update to it. Should I still download the ISO (I haven't tried this yet)?

    Welcome to TenForums, chewlip.

Several folks here have reported that the Windows Update route (for this new build upgrade install) failed for not so obvious reasons and then it runs fine from the iso, so I would say yes.

Per Cereberus' advice, running setup.exe from within Windows will do the upgrade, not a clean install, which is equivalent to what the Windows Update route is trying to do.

My laptop (a Dell) took the upgrade through Windows Update just fine. However, my wife's (an Acer) would not - for her the iso upgrade route went off without one hitch.

Do you have a complete backup, ideally a complete disk image, of your system saved on an external drive? This is highly recommended.

What version of Windows 10 do you have running now ?
    Is it 10240 ?
If yes, then you should follow the advice given to you and download the iso from either Media Creation Tool or Tech Bench.
Then do an upgrade install by right click at the iso > click Mount > click Setup.exe.
    No product key is required.
    Activation is automatic.

In case you don't know. To check you Windows 10 version : type winver in your search bar > Enter.

OP is trying to upgrade to 10586. It does not matter if 10240 or old OS is being used (so long as valid). The iso will upgrade in either case.

    Thank you.
You need to upgrade to 10586.
Use the suggestions given to you in this thread.

    ISO download links .......................
Media Creation Tool ( MCT )
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

    Tech Bench
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/techbench

    Good luck.

    Using MCT as example................
Download the Tool and run it.
    Then select
Create installation media for another PC
That will begin downloading the ISO file to your computer.
When download is completed, RIGHT click at the ISO > click Mount > click Setup.exe.
That will begin installing Windows 10.
You have the choice of keeping settings, files and apps, or keeping nothing.
    No product key is required.
    Activation will be automatic.
