I switched off AVG firewall as Leechap said and am now downloading updates thank you all for your help (I love this site )

I can tell you that it was deductive reasoning and trial and error because there is not much online about it and yet it clearly affects quite a few people.

Because I don't like to take chances on Windows Updates being needed while I'm bringing my computer to school or work, I sometimes do Windows Updates manually at convenient times so it won't interfere.
Today, it occurred to me that I didn't need...
I think the "updates freezing" issue has come up in another thread and apologies if it has, but I can't find it momentarily.
The screen shots show what I've been looking at for two days now. Obviously something is amiss with Automatic Update but...
Is it possible to disable automatic downloading of Windows Updates? I am connected by cellular tethering about 50% of the time and I don't want it to use up my internet.
For some reason every time i try to download and install new apps from the beta store or download general updates from windows update it just seems to hang up and get stuck at downloading updates or installing.
