I did try and deleted the windows/softwaredistribution/download folder. It seems to have worked! I mean, so far it has not done anything weird. After the dl and install it rebooted 3 times and it shows that I now have KB3093266. Not sure why MS keeps bad DL's. I would think it would remove them if there was a failure.
I just completed my 6th updates on various computers, 2 Desktops and 4 Notebooks, and KB3093266 installed quite nicely on all but 2 Notebooks. Those 2 Notebooks couldn't get the download going so I used the stand-alone installer for KB3093266 that I had downloaded a couple of days ago and both worked perfectly. The problems with the downloads for those 2 most likely were due to general slowness of the Internet, my connection is 1Mbps Wireless DSL, phone-line DSL can't do any better for me and I'm seriously looking at what the cable company can offer.
Well, it was not speed in my case as I am on 50/50 FIOS.
Thank you so much!
update KB3093266 downloaded and has since tried to download and failed a few times. It has now stopped my internet .Any suggestions would be appreciated
Well guys, quick update. Successfully installed after running the batch files and the MS update executable fixer. Multiple times.
The reason in my case was unusual. Previously I had totally gotten rid of ALL things MACRMEDIA/FLASH (God, how I hate that malware vector disaster of a program). Also IE 11 was unchecked in windows features so it was hidden. Problem was I deleted all files in Sys32 folder and Wow64, Plus User data, AND all relatated registry keys. Once I finally figured out how to fix this, then the recent flash security update could install, and then after that, finally, the darn CU installed.
Two conclusions first one personal: 1. Learnt a fair bit in the 5 hours I spent and kind of enjoyed, but will be much more careful with anything registry related in future.
2. I think, probably, this CU will only install properly if everything on the PC is working correctly, and there. Funnily SFC and DISM scans always passed, they didn't care about Adobe rubbish. But it seems this very sensitive update did.
Well that's it. Thanks for everyones input. I doubt my post will be helpful as this is a very specific issue, but it's interesting fyi don't you reckon?
Edit: Just in case, I should have said I deleted only all things related to flash, shockwave, macromedia, in the above windows and user folders and registry. I'm sure that's obvious, but I wrote/put it badly.
