    Hi pentagon,
I'm back, have read post #130, and the link therein, and have a few queries on that post:
    - what am I looking for with the 'before you do anything' scannow command?
    - Queensway talks about 2 mount folders . . . what is queensway and how does it work in this context (update/replace winre.wim)?

    Re the linked post, #25:
    - is it required extract the whole of the iso file, or can 7z extract just a/the nominated folder? The theme of the post is that it can, but it's unclear.
    - extracting the install.esd folder assumed to yield the pictured list of sub-folders 1 thru 7, but there is no mention of the files (winre.wim and reagent.xml) described in the next step. How are those files obtained from that list of folders 1 thru 7?

    The sequence in your post 130 is;
    - run scannow
    - extract 2 files - Winre.wim and ReAgent.xml - from the windows iso and copy them to the C:\windows\system32\recovery folder
    - and then ??? what do I do run queensway and the dism image commands you outline?

Apologies for appearing dense, but command level work is not something I have dealt with in any depth for 40 years, and not well at that time either.

Read everything carefully! I mentioned this path:

    ...sources\install.esd\2\Windows\System32\Recovery

You can copy the Recovery-Folder to your Desktop first and copy it in the 2nd step to its final destination.
The only import thing is that you run 7z as admin

    OK.
    - Ran the scan, no integrity violations reported.
    - opened the iso file made by the creation tool (which was win 10 22h2) with 7z and followed the path to reagent.xml and winre.wim, selected copy to C:\windows\system32\recovery. And there we hit a snag: the process reported an existing reagent file which was newer and larger than the file in the iso: in the C:\windows folder, file dated 5/5/24 (today! how does that happen?) size 2kb - Screenshot replace 1. Note that windows folder had no winre.wim file in it.

So I aborted that process and simply extracted both the reagent.xml and winre.wim to a holding folder (screenshot replace 2) pending a response from you.
Should I proceed and copy the 2 files from the holding folder to C:|windows\system32\recovery and overwrite that existing file?

When you read the post #25 from the link it started with:
    Run reagentc /disable

To make it easier, you can copy the complete folder Recovery, containing the 2 files
    Yes, override the existing stuff

I did that - disable, then enable.
I'll repeat the extraction and ignore the copy warning . . .

    updated
did that and got the following error screen (screenshot replace 3)
    ??

    That's wrong!

    1. disable
    2. copy
    3. enable

I also told you to run 7z as admin

As i said, i did that: what I should have said was ran disable, did the extract copy, ran enable.
And you have to exit cmd to run 7z.
And I have not been able to find a way to run 7z as administrator, see screenshot replace 4, and even running 7z from the search box does not provide a 'run as administrator' option so maybe that error message is related to that.

Why didn't you ask before you ran into this trouble. And before you open the ISO again and again and again ...
copy the Recovery folder to your Download folder first

You do keep editing the response after I have started to action it . . .

    cmd, reagentc /disable - success
    exit cmd
I ran 7z as admin per your suggestion, that worked.
Opened the iso folder to the recovery partition as your path statement, and selected both files, chose extract, and selected the copy location as C:\windows\system32\recovery. yes to all when then error message appeared, and it seemed to run OK - no further message boxes.
    closed 7z
    cmd, reagentc /enable - success
    exit cmd

opened explorer to check the copy location and it has not changed.
It seems that if the action is not changing the target folder, repeating it whilst apparently pointless is not damaging anything.

What specifically do you mean by copy the recovery folder to the downloads folder???

I have already said the extracted files (reagent.xml and winre.wim) are in a temporary folder. Is it reasonable to copy those to the target location, and if so how?

    When you run
reagentc /enable the files are moved to the Recovery-Partition.

    So it must be empty!

    The job is done!
