It will likely work, sort of. As soon as you turn it back on it will just auto update again. You won't be able to pick and chose which updates get installed. Also, you won't be getting any Defender updates while its disabled. If you want to test it go for it. I'm not disabling it on any of my systems.

windows updates usually do not give a pop up message, they many download in the background, but have only seen the restart message if the update was installed 24 prior, otherwise it auto restarts itself at 3am..

I do not feel this will be an issue for you, since you have already re-booted (re-started) at the onset of your presentation..

Thanks, but not so sure. I only use my Windows 10 Macbook once a week.

This Windows 10 Macbook not my primary computer, it's my sleek/light travel companion. I do all my work on my heavy desktop computer, upload the finished Powerpoint preso from there to Dropbox. Next day, I grab my Win 10 Macbook, jump on the train, arrive at the conference room, connect to wi-fi, let Dropbox update itself, launch the file I completed the night before, boom, I'm presenting.

If during that boot sequence when I'm connecting to wi-fi for the first time in a week Windows decides, hmm, he needs an update, and either starts to push it to me or puts up a pop-up, it's very very bad as the audience thinks I'm Mr. Technology and it just can't happen.

I know the easy answer is to boot up the night before but it just doesn't happen that way. I'm very busy, and life just means that I get to a conference room, start up the notebook, let Dropbox pull down the latest Powerpoint for 10 seconds, and boom I'm off presenting. The fear is in that exact moment, Windows sees me online for the first time in a week and decides to assault me with pop-up's or the start of downloading files.

    Thoughts?

It may start downloading in the backround, but windows 10 updates have not (yet) presented any popup messages
but instead windows update just schedules a restart at 3 am..

As of yet MS has not allowed us control over windows 10 updates, can see size or details, very limited info without a lot of research..

Thanks. I am assuming that also I could boot up, pull down my Dropbox file, and then go into Airplane Mode to prevent any downloads or messages that way.
