Windows update locks up on Firmware update.

I just got a windows notice for an update. There were several optional updates and I allowed them to be added. One was a Firmware update. When it came to restarting I get a firmware updater failed and it hangs. A couple times it restarted got to Windows, proceeds to update Windows, (updating messages on the light blue screen) then goes back to trying to update and fails to load the firmware again.

This is my old laptop I don;t use often and If I remember, already has the latest BIOS. I should have never checked download the Firmware. I think its trying to load the same, ore maybe an older BIOS over the most current. How can I reverse this or tell windows not to try to load this download?

Hi, you might be able to 'hide' the update:
How to hide buggy updates on Windows 10 - Pureinfotech

or see this tenforums tutorial - from the searchable Tutorial section
Hide or Show Windows Updates in Windows 10

or you could try WUMGR (free):

Scan for updates with the left button, then select the update you don't want in the right pane, then use the Hide button on the left (1 of the 6 buttons) - these become active when you have selected an update, and tooltips are shown when you hover over them.

Thanks! The computer has started again. I'll look into one of those methods to never show those optional updates again.

I'd like to try WUMGR but I don't know how to install it. I doenloaded the zip from Github, but it has no .exe or .msi install application. Suggestions?

It's portable.. no installation needed. (= e.g. copy into your own folder, create your own start menu shortcut...)

    Or you could get
    zipinstaller
from Nirsoft (free).. that creates start menu shortcuts, puts the files in a folder and creates an uninstaller.
