How do I permanently stop windows updates

Is disabling the windows update service a reliable way to permanently stop updates? I've heard many people say it turns it's self back on sometimes and I'm pretty sure it's done that on me too.

I need a way to ensure absolutely no updates are ever performed on the system while still remaining connected to the internet.

    Hello @silverz,

There are MANY different methods of achieving this.

This is very popular => How to use CMD Script and VBScript to Control Windows Update in Windows 10

    I hope this helps.

The best I've been able to come up with is
My scheme for managing Windows updates [post #5] - TenForums
    - As noted, the KB4023057 update to WU itself sneaks past when it is re-issued [often once a year].
    - I haven't found any others sneaking through.

Other methods are shown in the relevant tutorial [link given in my linked post].

    All the best,
    Denis

"Microsoft Update Health Tools" does not exist on my Windows 10, so I think KB4023057 has not been installed.

Can't confirm if it still applies but some time ago I read that Microsoft would "force feed" some critical updates as deemed necessary regardless of any customization applied by the User.

Yes, see link in post #3 for the source quote.
The KB4023057 update is the only one I've witnessed sneaking through.

    All the best,
