Windows 10 Updates error - Can't install Updates

I recently upgraded to W10. When my first auto update came through, the setting panel just tells me it cannot install updates. I get 2 errors & 2 waiting for install as follows.

    Details:
Update for Windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB3063843)
    Error

HP - Enterprise WSD Multi-Function Printer, Multi-Function Printer, Other hardware - Null Fax - HP Officejet 5740 series
    Waiting for install

Update for Windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB2990967)
    Error

Hewlett-Packard - Enterprise WSD Multi-Function Printer, Other hardware - Null Print - HP Officejet 5740 series
    Waiting for install

I don't understand why windows is trying to install 8.1 update on my windows 10 OS.
I cannot get rid of them to install the others.

    Any ideas, Jtimer

    Hello jtimer,

I was having problems with my printer drivers in Device Manager after upgrading to Windows 10. Both were not working. I went to HP Support, enter my device in the search box there, and downloaded the new (July 2015) Full Feature software package for my HP Officejet 5740 All-in-One Printer and then rebooted. Afterwards, I went back into Device Manage, expanded Printer, and now had my two new drivers working. There was also two Unknown Devices there, which I deleted. Most likely, the old drivers that didn't work after the upgrade. My printer is working fine now, but I'm also having the same problem with two failed Windows Updates for the printer. Since we both have Windows 10 Home Edition, there is no way to turn off Windows Update. I did not find any way to hide those failed updates, either. So, they would not keep trying to install.

Hopefully, one of our more experienced members will have a solution for this.

I really don't want to download 3rd party software to do what W10 is suppose to do.

Does anyone know why W10 updates wants to install W8.1 updates?
How do I get rid of the suggested updates that display an Error?

If you're connected thru WiFi set as a Metered connection, either unset 'Metered' temporarily, or connect your Ethernet. Worked for me on a bunch of Office 2010 updates this morning.

    I can't answer why you're getting W8.1 updates.
