cannot update 20H2 build 19042.662 for last 2 months

I had read it once that this update error can occur in connection with mixed reality in Windows 2004/20h2.

Please check on the next patch day whether the updates are now being installed without errors when you install Mixed Reality again.

I certainly will, I already have Windows Mixed Reality installed again and gaming.

You are most welcome.

A little hint: If you have to perform an in-place upgrade at some point, you no longer need to follow the steps with changing the version number. You should then be able to keep apps and files.

I hope you do system backups, now is a good time again.

Yep full system image backup once a week. All drives.
Btw- I did not have to change a version number or anything, once Windows Mixed Reality was uninstalled and I rebooted the update installed through Windows Update without a hitch.

I am so grateful because after trying to get it to install and it always failing for so long I was about at the point of doing a format and new install of everything. And my system runs quite well with my games so I was not too keen on that.
And all I had to do was uninstall WMR - way to go Microsoft your own program preventing updates from installing LOL.
Going to be interesting to see how it handles the next cumulative update now that I have WMR installed again.
