Windows update set to manual but still no option to install single

    Hi Guys

I have set group policy to notify for update and notify for download, so when I manually check for updates, it shows any that are available, however when there are multiple updates available, there is no option to download/install an individual one, it just downloads / installs all of them?

Is there a way around this, as there is no point of the manual setting if it downloads /installs all of them at once anyway?

    Any help appreciated.

    Hello ancient,

Being able to select which updates to install has been stripped out of Windows 10.

Instead, you could use the method in the tutorial below to hide the updates you do not want to install. :)

    Hi ancient,

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/8013-windows-update-automatic-updates-enable-disable-windows-10-a.html

If you've set group policy to "Notify for download and notify for install" (2), using "Check for updates" button you'll NEVER see "Download" button.
You'll be able to see it (notifies you) after system performs an automatic update task (once a day) OR if you open "Run" and give this command: UsoClient.exe StartScan

"Check for updates" button, performs a forced update which means no option to manually download (Group Policy is ignored).

UsoClient.exe StartScan command, performs just a scan for updates and allows you to download manually (if you have "Group Policy" modified). System uses this command for automatic update.

What Brink suggests is the only way to "choose" updates. After hiding update(s) you must "Run" UsoClient.exe StartScan command to rescan and update "Windows Update" panel. Or else hidden update(s) will be installed.

What I've done? I created a shortcut (on desktop, right click->New/Shortcut) typing UsoClient.exe StartScan command, using it whenever I want to check for updates and never use the "Check for updates" button which performs a totally uncontrollable (ignoring "Group Policy") download and installation update.

    Hope MS reconsiders about updates...

    Hi Brink/ Werby
    Thanks for the replies.

Brink ...will wushowhide only work on updates that are already installed? or updates that are available but not yet installed?

Werby....thank you for the informative answer, I didn't realize "check for updates" ignores group policy and forces the update to download/install! it makes sense now, however when I use UsoClient.exe StartScanit very briefly shows a cmd box and the disappears?

    ancient,

It'll only work for updates that are currently available. If the updates are already installed, then they will need to be uninstalled first.
