Still not getting V2004 Update - Should I be worried?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place. Just as the title says, my laptop still hasn't received the 204 update. I continue to get the message that says "The Windows 10 May 2020 Update is on its way. Once it’s ready for your device, you’ll see the update available on this page." I have no idea what is preventing my machine from getting the update.

Should I be concerned? I was updated to 1909 in November of 2019. And I received a bunch of Office and Security updates yesterday. But no 2004. Is it taking this long to get the update out to everyone or is there something on my laptop preventing the update?

    Thanks for any thoughts.

No, you need not be concerned. Ever since their too rapid rollout of the ill-fated first release of 1809 Microsoft have been overly cautious about pushing a new version. Not only did they make Feature Updates optional across all editions including Home, they also will not offer it until they (or their telemetry-based machine learning) thinks it's not going to cause you issues. The end result is that many, like you, are left wondering why it hasn't been offered yet.

But you're not missing anything much, apart from a Cortana makeover and some new bugs there's little that's significantly new in 2004. I'm hard pressed to see any differences on my machines that have updated. My advice would be stop worrying and stick with 1909 until such time as 2004 is offered.

I had the update arrive via WIndows update today, just finished updating my HP notebook, all seems to be working perfect so far... Only think I had was it took 5 hours to complete!

Usually when I have done them in the past it takes about 2-2 1/2 hours so no idea why this took so long..

No concerns - I have no sign of it on my 1 year old HP laptop but my 6 year old Dell laptop was offered the upgrade and is OK apart from the Trim bug.

I have a Laptop and a PC, exact same Windows 10 versions. My older Laptop updated to 2004 about 2 months ago with no issues. But I had the same message on my PC saying it wasn't compatible as yet. My PC is only a few months old. And then last week, it was available. All updated and running well. So, it will happen eventually. Apparently there's a lot of variables as to why it takes so long for some.

2004 finally came through on my Ryzen 3700x box (other, older pcs got 2004 straight away) and it was the same story as other big upgrades - loads of stuff broken, but no obvious change to the OS*.

Soundblaster Z - all custom eqs deleted, output switched to 5.1 - I have a 2.1 stereo sound system so just got indistinct muffled noises. Taskbar volume control changed to 90% so when I'd fixed the SBZ my speakers were nearly blown out.

TV tuner card - error message 'no tuners available'. Took a while to sort that out.

Old-style photo viewer deleted and replaced with what MS think I should be using. I prefer the old app because I can zoom with mouse wheel when making tutorials. Luckily I still had the reg file from Ten Forums.

Netflix totally broken in Edge. Couldn't find any fix except back-up bookmarks, uninstall Edge with Revo, re-install, reload all my extensions from Chrome store, reset homepage to DuckDuckGo, reset new tab to homepage blah blah blah.

I thought at first Netflix had stopped because I had no internet, but turns out the no internet taskbar icon is one of the 'new features' of 2004.

Considering that I mainly use Windows 10 for multimedia, it's almost as if the MS telemetry reported back what I use my pc for and MS thought 'let's break everything this guy does'.

*Actually, there was one noticeable change to the OS - a button appeared for Cortana, which I immediately removed.

As long as MS releases 2004 before the end of support date for 1909.
