    Less Updates Please

Whatever the next flavour of Windows will be like please, Microsoft, do something about all the updates. I spend a ton of money on data to keep everything updated and seriously, it needs to be throttled back a bit.

To be honest, its not just MS at fault here. Adobe is another one. Others too. Yes, I know, security bla bla... listen to the consumer and find a better way of dealing with these issues.

A lot of software developers are now no longer releasing a downloadable installer i.e. the software is installed directly from the internet. So when I reinstall all three PC's I have 'download' the same software three times. Adds up. Then if I want to reinstall 6 months later, for whatever reason, I have repeat the entire process as I have no installer from last time. Adobe and Google are two examples of this.

You need to start using system imaging software so you don't have to go through that pain - its quicker and much easier, and costs you nothing. Have a gander at the free version of Macrium Reflect for that.

Cheers. Someone mentioned that too on Seven Forums. Question is will it work on 3 completely different PC's. I always thought that the PC's would need to be identical...

You make a separate image for each PC.....it doesn't take long at all. Browse the Backup & Tutorial section of SF. Plenty of information there.

It really is a huge time-saver.

+1 for Macrium Reflect. It does a very nice job for me. You can restore to different hardware with the paid version.

Don't really do a lot of images myself but at home i have been happy with Windows Backup to create an Image (as a one time thing).

In our enterprise environment we use WDS (Windows Deployment Services), this allows for different machines, all you need to do is add the drivers to the server and it picks the appropriate ones as required, i believe it's free too (i could be wrong though).

Lazesoft Recovery Suite 3.4 works for me. Been using it for a couple of years now. Also having an SSD as my primary drive it really helps in creating an image in no time. . .:)
