    Activation Confusion

    Hi All,

I know there are many threads about the activation system but I was just wondering if I done it correctly.

I downloaded the media creation tool selected upgrade and it upgraded my PC from W8.1 > W10 and the product got activated.

I then used the media creation tool to create a USB with the ISO did a clean install like that however it hasn't activated. Microsoft said the error code means I just need to wait but I'm sceptical as they have been telling me wrong information for the past few days.

Was I meant to do a clean install within windows rather booting up from ISO?

I tried my W8.1 and it is "invalid".

    Thanks

Can't clean install from within the OS, only upgrade. Appears to me that you did everything correctly and probably should trust MS on this one.

Thanks. Although I just noticed I downloaded W10 Pro N and previously it was W8.1 Pro ... is the N version going to matter I mean it's only the media player but I'm not sure if they have different licenses or are just slightly different images.

    Thanks

Not comparable versions is a potential problem, but I'm not sure of the licensing differences. That's probably a better question for the Microsoft forum.

Why do you need to do install from Media?

You have a year to get it through Windows Updates, Going through Windows Updates is the best way, you don't need to worry about compatibility and license issue, MS does all that for you.
