    Update KB4023057 issue

    Hello,
Got a notice that update KB4023057 waiting to be installed. Looked into installed updates list, it is listed as succesfully installed on 6 July 2018. Tried first to uninstall this update before installing the "waiting" update, it is not listed in the uninstall list. Tried to uninstall it via cmd prompt as admin, got answer it is not installed on my computer.
Made a search in microsoft updates catalog, "We did not find any results for "kb4023057"" was the answer.
Now I am asking you what to do, install or not, and what else can I do.
    Answers will be appreciated.
    Thanks

Plenty of info about this update online (see Microsoft KB4023057 - Google Search) but if it's not showing up in the Catalog, that usually means it's either been withdrawn (often because of problems) or superseded by a later update (usually a cumulative update). Reading the chatter on this update, it could be either one, this time!

Hello and thanks for the answer.
But right now what shall I do with this "Waiting to install..." as on attached screenshot, if such an update does not exist ?
    Answer will be appreciated
    Thanks

If it's not available anymore, you can let it wait until Hades freezes over and it shouldn't make any difference. You might try running the Windows Update Troubleshooter to see if it clears this spurious alert.

    Hello,
Thanks for the answer. This KB which "does not exist" sneaked behind my back and installed itself without any notics. And what's more, it looks like a program, not an update, as on attached screenshots. So first I disabled update service, and now I am going to uninstall it, and see what happens then.
However I have a full backup.
Any opinions about this will be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Motim

Very interesting! Make a backup before you uninstall it. Then you can do so, and if it causes problems, revert back instead. This is the second time I've read about this kind of thing (WU item installed as a program). No clue as to either cure or causation, so sorry! Keep us posted on how things go, OK?
    Thanks, and best wishes,

    Hello,
Thanks for the answer. Here is what I did with this "UnKnown update / program"1. Disabled win update services.2. Uninstalled this 'program / update' whatever, while it was uninstalled, it created a restore point, removed this restore point also.3. Made a search in the system if this file is not hiding somewhere.4. Rebooted and checked again.5. Made a new restore point, and a full backup with Macrium. One Macrium full backup made while this "thing" was still on the system, I coppied to another place just in case.Notes;I keep updating Defender once or twice a day, it does not depend on win update service.List of installed updates is blank - I think because the service is disabled, (I tried it once before), can only see a list of updates to uninstall. So my computer is updated from two days ago.
    Thanks

    Hello,
Have not got any respond from you yet.
Yesterday 5 Aug, enabled win updates for some moments to chk if anything new available - it took just a blink of the eye, and this "non existing" update installed itself as a program, not as update. Closed the door again, uninstalled it and used my recent backup. Well, now update service is again disabled.

Did you see that? If so, what's your problem with this update?

If you don't want it you can hide it:
Hide or Show Windows Updates in Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorial
just to see it again after a few days, hide it again and again, till you decide to "kindly" upgrade...

Same issue here. It is installed as a program and keeps trying to install from within Windows Update. I deleted everything in Windows > SoftwareDistribution > Download and then downloaded and ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter; I will see if it helps, or maybe this is just how it is supposed to work.....who knows.
