General Availability is when you can walk into a brick and mortar store and buy in a box. That will not happen on 29 July.
in my opinion win 10 is nowhere near ready for general release not fit for purpose one would say at this stage will be good in the near future tho

I for one disagree.. it's more than ready for GA... and if we get a new build this week it should be just about perfect for most users.

    Keyboard far better

    Wynona said:
I guess you could call me proficient at the keyboard, since in a past life, I was a statistical typist and a technical typist along with the normal every day use of Microsoft Word for plain vanilla documents with a few extras thrown in. I typed instructions on how to produce oil from coal . . . yeah, a long convoluted process . . . no, I didn't come up with the instructions; I just put them into the computer. :) We even had a huge "recipe book" that I created (with a little help from my bosses).

That said, I like the mouse, generally one click and I'm done; however, to each his own. I just find it easier to use a mouse than learn all those keyboard shortcuts.
    Yes, to each their own. It's your/their device/PC and your/their time. :)

Having your history I'm quite surprised your not a general keyboard user for it's much quicker at tasks and navigation. Perhaps you perform some of these having that experience. e.g. As I'm typing this let's say I want to italicize the word italicize. Why would I waste the time to reach for a mouse, click the I in the editing ribbon above, and return my hand to the keyboard when all's I have to do is press Ctrl/I, then type? Or when going back to edit to italicize a word when all's I have to do is navigate to the word (Ctrl/Back or forward arrow to "skip" words; Up/down arrows for lines) > Ctrl/Shift/Left arrow to highlight > Ctrl/I > done. My hands still on the keyboard. Can be performed in a fraction of the time. Why would I reach for the mouse > double click on a word to highlight > move to the editing ribbon above, press the I, and then return my hand to the keyboard? Truly a waste of time.

    Tiped...........

    Attachment 23817

................a word, it gets red-underlined, and not sure of the correct spelling? After typing it tap Menu key > Arrow down to proper selection > Enter > Done. Why would I waste the time to go look it up in a dictionary when the global dictionary will do that for me?

That's just a few examples using this forum's text editing boxes. It all depends on the program of course. Programs such as Word will auto correct if not too far off in spelling.

When it comes to navigating an OS, 10 with a keyboard is a bear. It's limited, but there continues be some key combos carried over. WinKey/X being just one of them.

    Attachment 23819

Let's say I'm here or in any screen and I want to open Disk Management. WinKey/X does it quickly. Why would I take my hand off the keyboard and go running around with my mouse to other places to find it. Even if I use the mouse to left click the Start flag? Truly a waste of valuable time.

I'm sorry, Wyn, and please don't take this personally (nor anyone) for I respect your knowledge of OS structure and overall insight of computers, but the mouse has slowed down the use of a computer so far as tasks and navigation. Sure, the introduction of the mouse way back when enabled the less experienced to use one, but so far as performing tasks and navigating an OS the keyboard wins hands down.

On the other hand, perhaps I'm the dumbed down one at this point. Perhaps I'll have to use more of the mouse in 10. Not liking the idea, though.

Merry Christmas in July from Prince of the Keyboard.

Next key combo I perform is Alt/S.

Ya caught me red handed, Hippsie! I do use a whole lot of what you described . . . I just hadn't paid any real attention to it. And sometimes I use a combination of keyboard and mouse to accomplish a particularly daunting task. :)

As HG indicates the use of the keyboard can be faster then the mouse/keyboard combination, albeit over time because of the stokes that have taken away some of my capabilities (problems using the keyboard with my hands) the mouse has become an important tool for me. . .:)

My motherboard is on the fritz so I need to replace it.. I should get the new one on Friday.

Maybe if you replaced the capacitors it'd be fixed. I think they're often to blame when electronics just start malfunctioning.
