Build 14942 update crashes during installation

My PC attempted to update build 14936 to 14942 last night and got through a bunch of stuff and then crashed.
I tried to run the update again and the same thing happened. The system then reverted back to 14936.

Try turning off any third party antivirus anti-spyware (adware) That worked for Me .You my have to uninstall them and reinstall after upgrade.I only use Windows Defender On my Preview computer.

Thank you so much fred0483! I disabled Malwarebytes from starting at boot up, ran the update again, and it finished perfectly.
I am now running Build 14942.

I cannot even install Malwarebytes on Preview Build 14942. The service crashes on this preview build.

This build (14942) appears to be more wonky than the past ones. Not only does Malwarebytes crash it but Oracle VirtualBox won't even open. I also have noticed that when I Sleep the computer, it sometimes wakes up and does a full restart.

I know this is a preview build and do expect issues, but this one has more than other builds I have tried. I hope another build comes soon. At least they fixed the network discovery.

    BitDefender

I'm adding Bitdefender Total Security 2016 to the list. Apparently this build will not play nice with alternative firewalls, as it keeps preventing it from activating causing a warning.

Aside from that, Chrome won't install/uninstall anymore, Edge is nothing but a grey slate when opening, and web browsing is slower than dialup on the remaining browsers that do work, including Firefox, Safari and Opera.

I suspect this is also due to an issue with Bitdefender.

I'm seeing this on both my desktop rig AMD FX, and my Intel based laptop.

I'm know more after I'm able to uninstall Bitdefender

    Update:

Just got confirmation that removing Bitdefender fixed all of the above issues

Seems this latest update is hitting anti virus/malware programs. Maybe intentional?

    Success!

As before, I uninstalled MBAM and disabled my antivirus program and I now have 14942.

No problems with my antivirus (NOD32). That's all I have tried so far.

Do I dare put MBAM back in?

Did MS make some improvements to the update or was I just lucky this time?

    We shall see.

Not likely. I had a hint this would happen from the last build/ event, when they announced that they would introduce a feature in Windows Defender that would allow it to scan the PC alongside other Antivirus software.

This latest update comes with a lot of bells and whistles under the hood and it's possible that the next build will get some security enhancements currently being worked on.

Like others have commented, preview builds are not for production, only for testing. If a build doesn't work for you, roll back to a previous one and wait for a better one, or stop preview builds altogether until a stable official build is released.
