Very happy with this build !!
Hi there
I usually rant and rave after a new build saying I Can't use it and then after a few days find various solutions and then find it's not as bad as I thought.
This build has worked for me (once I got it installed) like a dream -- minimal things that yielded problems were :
1) VIA HD sound -- had to downgrade the sound to 16 bit 96000 Hz from 24 bit studio quality 192000 Hz bit to get it working -- that's a known problem. Degradation on high end studio speakers - but those of you with "Bassy" computer boom boxes or used to compressed mp3 sound probably won't notice the difference. Apparently this will be fixed soon.
2) From LINUX Samba can access any shared drives -- the only problem is that trying to access folders on the "C" drive yields weird results -- not a mega problem as it's not a good idea to share "C" drive at root (i.e "/.") level. Other drives work just fine. (W10 TO Samba - Linux shared folders working perfectly also BTW).
Windows to Windows sharing is OK though.
Other than those two "niggles" rather than problems I'm happy. BTW sound on my other machines that don't use the VIA sound system work just fine.
Start menu is OK too -- just remove "Metro apps" that you don't want and adjust menu to size.
My impression of this build is well done Ms --- now need to ensure if it installs nicely via clean install (and not important for 99.99995% of the planet --could I have the Icelandic display language pack -- was available in W8.1 --most people here speak probably better English than they do in central London so not a huge issue -- but would be nice).
Cheers
