Yes. For me that is to put it plain and simple a misplaced menu selection item which hopefully will be re-thinked and re-placed.
Kari, we have no fundamental difference regarding the MS account per se. I think it can be very useful. Our difference is about the way they enforce it or sneak it in. There should be a clear choice for the user and not on the bottom of the third page. And Apps should work with a local account - at least those that do not do any sync.
I have an MS account myself and it was useful for my Instant Go devices where it stored the encryption key on my account.
Wolfgang, my post was maybe ill worded but my point was that any arguments we have had are only differences in opinion and that I have no difficulties to admit when you in my opinion are right.
Let it be said once more here in public that I see you as a remarkable treasure chest regarding everything computing and respect you for your vast knowledge and experience :).
Very sincerely, your fellow old school geek
Kari
Some apps do work with only a local account. Weather, I believe does... for instance.
However, I see Microsoft's point on this. They have to look at it from a user confusion point of view. 99% of users won't care, and trying to explain it to them will just confuse them. So it's best to just guide them to using one. The small percentage of power users that DO care will be able to figure out how to create a local account, so making it harder to get to makes it less likely that end users will get confused.
You can set up your location by clicking on Action Centre (grill bottom r/hand corner) where there is a location block which unfortunately is blank on my machine, but by clicking on All Settings, then Privacy, then Location, there you will find many options.
Scroll down for Weather and turn on.
Mystere, you are right. Some apps work with the local account but others don't - e.g. Calendar. And it's the same on 8.1 where one of my friends wanted to have a calendar on her one and only desktop PC, but it did not work with the local account. I found a really nice one in Linux which I have setup in a virtual machine for her anyhow - for her banking.
