Unknow full freeze - no BSOD messages (Build 10041)

    Hello

I run Windows 10 on my main, which I mainly use for gaming (I know, preview build = crashes so no gaming right now). Therefor most of my drivers and software are non compatible with windows 10 (again, i know). I just updated to the 10041 build, and for inital boot, there is no issues, but some time after log-in (I am able to use the computer for up to 5 minutes) it freezes up, and I have to force-reboot (I've tried leaving it for an hour, still frozen). I know that it's not programs that's still starting up, since the C drive is two SSD's in RAID 0 (please don't bug me about this. I'm fully aware of the risks for RAID 0 and I do also know that it's only a minor performance boost as opposed to just a single SSDs but I got it, deal with it - I got all Documents, Videos, Pictures, and other important files running on 2 WD Red in Raid 1)

I tried to boot into safemode, how-ever it appears that explorer had some issues running in that - which is why I'm very worried. I'm not very used to these kind of situations, so I don't know which of the logs to post, or where to find them.

    I would really appreciate help.

    Thanks

Explorer had issues in Safe Mode? Are you referring to Internet Explorer (iexplore.exe) or to File Explorer (explorer.exe)?
What are the issues that you are having?

IME, the more high-end your system, the more likely you are to have problems with pre-release software. But, that's part of the fun of being on the leading edge of technology! :0)

Even though you're not having BSOD problems, Please provide this information so we can provide a complete analysis (from the Pinned Topic at the top of the forum): Solved BSOD - Posting Instructions - Windows 10 Forums

    Also, please provide this report:
    Please do the following:
    - open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog)
    - expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
    - right click on Administrative Events
    - select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
    - save the file as Admin.evtx
    - zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
    - upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

While waiting for a reply, please monitor your temps with this free utility: HWMONITOR | Softwares | CPUID
These reports should give us an in-depth look at the system and the state of Win10 on the system. Hopefully the reports will contain clues as to what's going on.

FWIW - in previous versions of Windows, problems of this sort were mostly video related, followed by motherboard/chipset issues. BUT, it can also be hardware problems - so you may want to start with these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics

Ah, okay. I'll do that if the issue returns. I do think it was related to my graphics driver.

I ended up doing a system reset, but when-ever I run my graphics driver update tool, it crashes again. Can try and do it again and post the logs for fun's sake? Though properly not much to do before they support w10.

I tried to relaunch into safemode as well before i reset, and during the shutdown, was able to snap this picture with my phone:

I need all the experience that I can get with Win10 memory dumps - so I'd be glad to play with them!

Note the address listed in the Application Error window - the 0x00000000000000B8 number
This most likely isn't a good address - so I suspect a corruption of the program that's trying to access it.
While it's possible that explorer.exe is corrupted and trying to use this - it's more likely (IMO) that a 3rd pary shell extension may be causing this.

    Download this free tool: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html
Use it to disable all 3rd party shell extensions (non-Windows) and see if that helps.
If it does, then you can reenable them bit by bit to figure out exactly which one is causing the problem.

    Heya.

Sorry about the late reply. School stuff...

I sometimes still get a simular error when sutting down my PC so I'll try and use the tool you suggested to see if it helps.
Also, sometimes it is as if (often after the error occurs) the moderen part of W10 does not work? I often have to reboot to regain full functionality. Everything from the search system to general modern Apps, simply worn't work - usually does after a restart...

But here's a copy of my logs
Tell me if you find anything interesting.

    Several of these errors:
The system firmware has changed the processor's memory type range registers (MTRRs) across a sleep state transition (S5). This can result in reduced resume performance.
I'd suggest making sure that you have the latest BIOS version and the latest chipset and Intel drivers for your system.

Also there's a number of these errors, and they seem to precede the other errors:
Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered.
This is also (usually) a STOP 0x117 error. I'd suggest getting the latest video drivers available from the AMD website.

I'm uncertain about the Modern apps, I rarely work with them. Maybe start another topic so someone with more experience can chime in?

Problem is that the system often crashes during the installation of the AMD drivers.

but ill check in regards to the bios and the other drivers tomorrow. Thanks.
