    Hi Andre Ten,

I carried out the netstat you suggested and I attach a copy of my results. I will continue to research what those results mean.

Yesterday I restored my computer to a date shortly after the problems all started. Today, using Command Prompt in Admin I ran netstat -ano|find ":53" to find that Heimdal Security was still on my computer. I have just uninstalled Heimdal Security and surprise, surprise, my computer no longer forces me to connect to a DNS server through 127.0.0.1. Whether that means that Heimdal Security was the problem since on my previous uninstall of that program I still could not connect, or whether it was because I had reverted to an earlier edition or why, I do not know, but at present I am working correctly, will have to return my new router and can now use my desktop. Thank you for all your help. David

Great! Good for you to restore PC to an earlier state.

Think about running only one real time security solution and uninstalling the rest. You may have on demand anti malware etc (like Malwarebytes free), but preferably not real time.

You can mark thread as solved if your PC remains OK.
