Thanks, Simrick. It'll be a few days to around a week before I decide to do anything with the old desktop. But I'll look inside it in a couple of days to see what I need and how many slots I have open. Like yours and Fabler's, it's an oldie.

Hmmm. Using Skype as iOS messenger.
Windows messenger was pretty good but Microsoft has binned it as well as WLM 2012.
As a paying customer, my thoughts on this, is totally trivial. Being an insider from the beginning I harkened to what they (Microsoft) listen to. That is simply to average the feedback and do what they do. Apple incarnate thoughts. Win 10 is an exceptional effort by Microsoft but throwing away excellent programs they could have built on, to beat the rivals, is a mystery to me.
Actually, Skype was formerly Lync. Microsoft bought it or the company. I'm not exactly clear on how it happened, but somehow Lync became Skype.
There is the Skype app that comes with Windows 10 (you have to install it to use it) and then there's Skype for Business. I have Office 365 E3 for Business. Skype for Business and OneDrive for Business come with the suite. So, essentially, I have both versions of Skype.
The regular Skype app lets us create groups of our peers. We can video/voice chat, voice only chat, or chat like we did in the old days; type at each other. Simrick is as close as we come to a Skype Guru, although she denies it.What I'm saying is that if you want to learn it, between Simrick, myself and maybe a couple more folks, we can teach you. We're always finding something new to do with Skype.
I think Microsoft kind of married Skype and Instant Chat to get the current product. And, believe me, they did build on Instant Messenger with Skype and its predecessor.
Edit: Oh, and BTW, you can put a webcam onto your laptop to get video and voice. :)
I can't top you, Fabler.
My 3 1/2 year old Windows 7 machine gets an occasional BSOD, but otherwise it runs 10 fine. I had it custom-built and had the shop add a partition for my legal 32 bit copy of XP, which runs well. (It is a 64 bit machine). After months of successfully running the Windows 8 beta, I installed a legal copy of 8 on a third partition, and it still runs well. I upgraded 7 to 10 because I never used it, but it always ran well.
Just to get myself back on topic, when we were beta testing Windows 7, we had a contest going to see who could put it on the oldest computer. The winner isn't important (because I can't remember who it was), but we all had Windows 7 on some awsomely old systems! I had a couple of really old ones running Windows 95 that Seven ran on, albeit rather slowly.
It's fun to see just how old a computer will run the current test builds of new Windows. I built the one I have in the closet for Vista and it ran Windows 8 just fine, so I'm pretty sure it'll run Windows 10 Server (is that the right terminology?).
I finally got it booted!
