Don't disable UAC. I know, I know, you should be able to do what you want. However, It may not be this release, but in a release coming soon Windows basically will not work at all without UAC. It's getting to the point were about 50% of Windows is dependent upon UAC.

The reason is because all apps run in protected mode, running with least privilege, preventing attackers from exploiting them and using them to create more malware. UAC does a lot more than just prompt you for permissions, it provides an entire virtualization infrastructure, and isolation container.

If you don't like the prompts, then just lower the warning threshold. But disabling it completely in the registry causes a lot of issues and will cause more going forward.

So far build 10049 looks rock solid for me -- I don't though like Spartan -- the old menu and favourites dropdown on IE is streets ahead of the new version. VPN won't disconnect -- but what's new --it's WINDOWS and whoever expects Windows Networking EVER to work without a glitch. !!

Still though REALLY HATE the current start menu -- the one from about 3 builds back was miles better. I tend to use a custom toolbar now for my programs so I can live without using the menu anyway.

Still a reasonable job this time on this build. It de-activated my Office preview 2016 -- but I only got that by luck anyway so no big deal --I've still got it on another version of W10 on a VM.

On a positive --seems to run really snappily and boots up incredibly quickly (even on spinners). On an SSD even better.

I think now you should really start to see improvements compared with previous builds.

I finally got 10049 to update. This build is not any uglier than Win 8.1 was.

How did you thicken the borders in 10? Is there a way to change that in 8? I tried using WinAero, but I can't get the borders to be as thin as Windows 10's.

Mine is a whole theme.
In W8 you could try navigating in the Registry, (if you're comfortable doing so), to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics

and changing 'PaddedBorderWidth' to 0

I used WinaeroTweaker and set paddedborderwidth to 0. Just checked in the registry and it's 0. The border is thinner, but no where near Windows 10 thinner. Oh well. Not a big deal. Thanks.

I prefer the borderless windows, the light shadow effect around the edges give a 3D effect.

I finally got 10049 to install in a reasonable time (2 hours). I can now make full use of the whole system because they finally fixed the high contrast theme.

The first program I wanted to run (WinDirStat) did not run. But that may be a problem with the program.

Spartan is so, so. I cannot make it fit on my screen - CTL and minus does not work. And I can see only the upper half of the Favorites bar. The familiar yellow star at the beginning of the favorites bar is not there either. I guess it's work in progress.

The footprint is also quite large. After I cleaned it up (deleted Windows.old and some useless apps), it is still over 23GBs. And I have only 4 little programs installed. That is a lot for a system which is only half done. My full blown Linux systems with a lot of programs installed take a fraction of that.
