    Build 14352 DNS Problems

Ever since I installed build 14352 on my desktop I have been unable to contact any web sites using Chrome and very few using Microsoft Edge, yet I am connected to the internet and dropbox synchronisation is working perfectly.
When I try to go to my mail using Gmail I get a page saying
    "This site cannot be reached
mail.google.com's server DNS address could not be found.
    Try
    . Reloading the page
. Checking the proxy, firewall and DNS configuration
    DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_BAD_CONFIG"
I get the same if I use Incognito, and if I use Microsoft Edge although the message is slightly different.
I get the same if I try to go to any other web site.
I have tried using ipconfig /all followed by /flush /release /renew with no result.
It is not my router or cable connection as I get the same with a wifi connection on the same desktop computer, but my wifi and cable connections on my laptop which is Build 10586 work perfectly correctly through the same router as do my Android wifi connection and my Apple wifi connection. It is only my desktop!
Any suggestions about how to revert to getting online with my desktop?

Did you enter ipconfig /flush or /flushdns? That should do, if it is a problem.

Otherwise, what is your network configuration on router - are your ip or MAC adresses locked in router etc?
Check router log and try also google DNS (8.8.8.8), if that works.

    My mistake it was flushdns

I have tried DNS 8.8.8.8 which does not work either. I set the DNS Server to 8.8.8.8 and, in due course, it reverts to 127.0.0.1.

In the General tab under Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties Obtain an IP address automatically is set, but Use the Following DNS server addresses is set. I change 127.0.0.1 to 8.8.8.8 and set the alternate DNS server to 8.8.4.4 and validate setting upon exit is ticked, but after a time it reverts to 127.0.0.1. I do not use the Alternate Configuration tab because my computer is only on one network.

Can you make a snap of your IPv4 settings and post a picture?

Try manual settings for your PC IP address and gateway.
ie 192.168.1.100 (put numbers from your local network)
    255.255.255.0
    192.168.1.1

    and DNS for google DNS

Set a number for your local address, above is just example if your local network is 192.168.1.x

Edit: do you have any alternative DNS client or security program running?

Thank you very much indeed for your help. However I have tried each and every one of your suggestions, including uninstalling the three security programs, and restarted my computer as I have been going along. Unfortunately I am left in the same position now as I was at the start, so I am reluctantly going to have to uninstall Windows 10, wipe the SDD and reinstall it and all my programs. I am not looking forward to doing that, so I might first try to roll back if possible to an earlier version.
Again many thanks for taking the trouble to give such a fullsome answer

You might want to take a look here:
Fix network connection issues - Windows Help

I found this after I typed all of my suggested solutions into a template. It would have saved me a lot of typing

The only steps I see in the MS page that differ from the post I wrote are:
    2. Roll back the network adapter driver
    4. Temporarily turn off firewalls
    7. Reinstall network devices using netcfg –d command

I never thought of rolling back the driver, never considered firewall causing these symptoms, and just learned about netcfg -d (build 1511 only)

You might want to check your adapter(s)
    - make sure that they are configured to automatically obtain both an IP address and the DNS server for both IPv4 and IPv6

IPv4 & IPv6 screens are the same - make sure you check both protocols.

I also configure my machines as shown below.
I do not have networks that require these to be on, so I disable LMhosts, NetBios, MS client, File and Printer, Discovery Responder ....Compare the images to your configuration - keep what you need.

The items below are the only ones I have enabled

Before you reinstall windows, try one (or two) more thing:

Run TCPview from Sysinternals and check what process is accessing 127.0.0.1 at port 53 (DNS service),

or run command prompt (elevated) and type

    netstat -ano|find ":53"
The last number in results window is PID of process. Open task manager and find which process have this PID.

This is described in dslreports forum.

Edit: You still didn't provide us with information about your security solution etc.
This type of problems are possible sign of malware, parental software (someone control and limiting net usage on net) or security programs gone wrong (openDNS is one).

    Hi Andre Ten

My security problem has run into a problem. I had to uninstall Heimdal Security, but that did not help and now cannot reinstall it as I need Internet access and cannot get it. I disabled 360 Total Security, but that did not help. Now however I cannot get Norton Security to open on the desktop, so cannot proceed disabling it. I don't want to uninstall it as it is my main defence! However I contacted Sky, my broadband and hub provider and after doing some tests they recommended a new router, which at substantial expense they are providing. It won't be here until Friday, so as I can still get online, just, with my iPad, I have stopped trying until the new router is installed. Many thanks for your help and I will post results of new router.

Looks like Heimdal Security is source of your problems.
You also run 360 Total security and Norton. Too much of security programs isn't good solution!

Uninstall of Heimdal obviously wasn't successful. I found this about their program:

    HeimdalAgent.exe and HeimdalAgentService.exe work through 127.0.0.1.

The Pro version "Secure DNS" changes the DNS settings to one 127.0.0.1. Disabling that under Modules will revert to your configured server(s).
New router won't help you, as you have to clean up your system first.

And thanks for posting some additional info.
