Windows Resource protection could not start the repair service

    Build 14291

Ran sfc and received the error message as posted in the title.

Ran this net start trustedinstaller in elevated command prompt. No help.

    However, dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth completed successfully.

So, how to fix the sfc issue, without the log ?

That will be beyond my ability to solve.

This method given by Waltc in this thread solves the issue completely.

There is another thread with answer given by DaRKNeTz.
SFC and DISM will not run on build 14279

Another member verified that it worked.
I'm too dumb to follow the instructions and I gave up.

Well, you were in the thread where DarkNetz gave the fix. I'll admit it wasn't as clear cut and easy a method as waltc's script but it accomplishes the same thing. MS needs to fix it - unless they have it that way on purpose or once it gets high enough on their priority list.
