Can't leave Insider Program Build 11082

Hey guys. Before Windows 10 was released, I joined the Insider Program and upgraded to the Windows 10 Insider beta, or whatever they called it. That was around May. I had just built a new PC with an activated version of Windows 7, and I thought I should just go ahead and upgrade to the beta before I got too invested so I wouldn't risk screwing everything up after I had everything installed.

So now in December, I'm getting sick of all of these major updates, and I'd like to just opt out of the Insider program and use the normal release version. But it won't let me permanently leave. I go to the Advanced Options in Windows Update settings, and choose "Stop Insider Preview builds," and it gives me choices of times to turn it back on. When I click the link that says "Stop receiving Insider Preview builds" to permanently stop, it just takes me to some web page explaining how to do what I just did, and it won't let me opt out.

Just to clarify, I'm now on build 11082, and I did upgrade this from an activated install of Windows 7. It's not like I did a clean install from an ISO and I'm after a free key or anything. I'm really hoping I don't have to reinstall Win7 and upgrade to the normal version.

You're going to have to re-install a release build, such as the November update. Since you've already successfully upgraded, you can reinstall clean and it will automatically activate, just skip any requests for entering a key.

Is it possible there will be another release build in the future that will let me opt out without doing a clean install?

You could try downloading the windows 10 November update and do an upgrade install but I don't know if will work in your situation WoodenSaucer. If you decided to do this, you will need to leave the insider program from the insider website first or it will upgrade you again to build 11082 once it installs. Caution doing this means you will not be able to roll back to windows 7.

    Another option is

Leave the insider program from the insider website.
    Roll back to windows 7
    upgrade to windows 10 again.

Save any data you might need, just in case you have issues with either method and still have to do a clean install.

    Good luck.
