Preview downloads in the "fast ring" - can I safely install?

    Hi,

I was wondering if somebody could tell me - if I download and install a Windows 10 Preview Build from the Fast Ring, such as the latest build 10547, will I then safely be able to update when the official build is released around November time? Or will I have to re-install Windows?

    Thanks

    Hi Alex
Yes you will be able to do that. If such an update happens you will be able to install it no problem. Then if you like you can stop receiving insider builds. Then you can start back up insider builds whenever you like. That is the way right now but it is always subject to change by MS:)

Thanks very much for the reply :)

I am a Windows Insider and in the fast ring, but Windows Update isn't finding the latest build. Is there anything I can try to prompt it?

Have you tried a clean reboot then leave the computer on overnight? A clean reboot is when no windows update download is being installed.

    Hi,

    Thanks for replies.

I was eventually able to update after doing a clean reboot as suggested.

I assume when the "final" build is released that the watermark in the bottom right corner will disappear?

It did with the release of 10240. I don't think anything has been announced how they will handle the next official update/upgrade.
