We can't leave it to the admins because they already have enough to do without holding the hands of those who make such a mistake. Some don't know better and some just don't care.

The experienced ones could say something like:

This thread was started by Joe Blow. We're trying to solve his problem. Your problem is different, so would you please start a new thread detailing your questions.

Something like that . . .

This is a John decision and he decided not to have that requirement. Is it necessary.. I don't think so in every case but if you think so then discuss this with the boss(John).

I agree that system specs should be a requirement; however, mine would be pretty crowded with four computers. :) Again, though, how would you govern it. Our admins have enough to do without holding our hands and directing us to follow the rules.

That might work in a few cases but in most it's just a waste of time.. well that's my experience in other forums.

Gary, I didn't say I'd done it; just that it might be a good idea. And, BunnyJ didn't say he'd done it either; he may have, but most likely, he's seen others do it and the results thereof.

Bottom line . . . well, seems as how there isn't one.

Well,, first off I know the parts that are in my PC.. and that's why I did that.
Second, Many members who come here to get answers likely have no idea what parts are in their PC/Device. So how can we expect them to fully fill out the specs. Yes,, Make and Model might help but I suspect many are here for what they feel are issues and are not going to take the time to fill out the specs.

Ah.. you really expect someone who just uses their PC for say email/Facebook and the like will take the time to read/understand how to use that and post their specs for that they perceive as a simple question??
